Many new activities are scheduled for the fall as well as well established programs in the Newcastle area. The continued good reception reception of preschool gym classes dictates their return. Children from 1 month to five years of age may participate in a progressive progressive preschool gymnastic gymnastic plan designed to match the level of development and needs of each preschooler coming to the "YW". Fitness classes are designed to meet all levels of ability for women, In addition, there will be a new Co-ed Fitness class. The emphasis of YWCA Fitness Fitness classes is on Fitness, Fun and Safety. A new innovation are the Fitness Packages available for Newcastle area classes whereby participants may purchase a package of classes resulting in considerable considerable savings and improved fitness. Included in the new programs being offered in Bowmanville this fall are lessons lessons in Karate, Guitar and Etiquette as well as Baby and Me, Creative Movement and Music, Creative Kids for children. children. Adults may choose from a variety of new activities such as Enjoy a Taste of Wine, Moms Meeting Moms, Guitar, Women's Night Out and a California Coast Tour to name a few. Finlay, Agricultural Representative FARM INJURIES DECREASE IN 1985 Injuries occurring to farm workers on Ontario farms decreased in 1985, according to recently released statistics from i the Farm Safety Association. Since reductions in the number of accidents for 1981 and 1982, the accident numbers had been climbing. The 1985 Survey of Lost-Time Injuries reported 2,906 injuries compared to 3,058 in 1984 and 2,809 in 1983. The agricultural commodity groups accounting for the largest largest numbers of injuries were the landscape group with 634 injuries (21.8 percent), . tobacco with 448 (15.4 percent) and fruit and vegetable with 224 (7,7 percent). The number of injuries recorded for the tobacco and fruit and vegetable vegetable groups decreased from the previous year. The Counties and Regions with the largest number of farm injuries were: York - 325 (11.2 percent of the total); Haldimand-Norfolk - 272 (9.4 percent) ; Ottawa-Carleton - 191 (6.6 percent); Niagara - 154 (5.3 percent) ; Middlesex - 149 (5.1 percent) ; Oxford -141 (4.9 percent) ; Essex -133 (4.6 percent). The Farm Safety Association also recorded 27 farm fatalities in 1985. Fifty fatalities were recorded in 1984. This was the first year in the last ten year period where there was a major decline in farm fatalities recorded (46 percent). Tractor rollovers claimed ten (10) lives in 1985. Nine of the recorded fatalities occurred to children under the age of 15 years. DURHAM EAST4-H JUDGING COMPETITION HELD IN ORONO The annual county 4-H Judging Competition was held at the Orono Fairgrounds on July 16th with 48 members competing. 4-H members judged and gave reasons on Holstein cows, replacement gilts, crossbred steers, balers, North Country Cheviot ewes, school lunches and answered an identification quiz. Winning the Novice Class for first-time competitors was Jeff Reynolds, Enniskillen, with Linda Heeringa, Black- stock, in Second Place and Julie Lovshin, Port Hope, in Third Place. The Highest Placing Junior was Eric Barkey, Blackstock, with Second Place going to Grace Prins, Hampton, and Third Glenn Barkey, Black- stock. Brent McLaughlin, Nestleton, was tied with the Highest Number of points in the Senior division, followed by Elaine Barkey, and was declared the winner on reasons scores, and third to Brian VanCamp, Blackstock, The Durham East 4-H Dairy Club had the Top Judging Team with team members Wilma Benschop, Bowmanville; Bowmanville; Glenn Barkey, Black- stock; and Linda Heeringa, Blackstock. , Bowmanville.
