Kidd of Oshawa, winning the singles by defeating Cook, of Cannington, 21-15. In the semi-finals, Cook defeated Lucas of Port Perry, by the score of 21-13, Kidd winning from Bowmanville by default. Goodman and Johns, of Oshawa, took the doubles by winning from Livingstone and McLeod, of Cannington, 17-8. In the semi-finals Livingstone and McLeod, of Cannington, won from Murray and Letcher, of Port Perry, 17-9; Goodman and Johns, of Oshawa, taking F. Cryderman and A. Moore, of Bowmanville, by the score of 11-4. Hicks, of Whitby, won the rink championship by defeating Nichols of Bowmanville. In the semifinals, semifinals, Hicks won by default from Cannington, and Nichols of Bowmanville defeated Gimblett of Peterborough, 11- 10. Referees were L. Wilson, Cobourg and C. Stenhouse, Oshawa. 25 Years Ago Wednesday, August 16th, 1961 On Sunday, August 13th, nearly 100 descendants of the Crago family attended the annual reunion of the family held at Waltona ' Park, Newcastle. Wagar of the Bowmanville High School teaching staff was the special speaker at Sunday night's service of the Salvation Army, and in his address presented a "Program of Thinking for the Week," basing his remarks on Philippians 4:8. The extension of this text from a teacher's viewpoint was much appreciated and well received. During the service two certificates, which were awarded by the Salvation Army Headquarters for Bible Knowledge, were presented to Sybil Mutton and Grace Sellers, both received 1st class with honors. Since 1869, two years after the Provinces of Canada were Confederated into a Dominion, the McLaurin family have served their church among the teeming untutored multitudes of India. Today, 67 years after, the McLaurin family is still doing its part in carrying out the command of the Saviour to go into all the world and preach the gospel. Bowmanville is at present honored with a visit from one of the most devoted missionary members of this family, Miss Kate S. McLaurin, who is spending some time here with her Sterling Mather served as auctioneer at the Newcastle Day Barbecue last Wednesday. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low and cook, stirring often until consistency consistency of applesauce. Pour into moistened jelly bag suspended over large bowl and let stand until dripping ceases. This will take several several hours. Pour juice into pan, discard pulp. Simmer juice until reduced to about 1 cup. Measure and add enough wine to make 2- 1/2 cups. Return to heat and stir in sugar. Stir over medium-low heat until sugar is dissolved. Remove Remove from heat and immediately stir in half bottle of pectin. Stir for exactly one minute. Pour into sterilized sterilized 1 cup jars. Seal with melted paraffin wax.
