Contracting Minor Mosquito All Stars played the Iroquois Soccer Club in Whitby. This was the final regular season game. The final score ended in a 2-2 draw. Bowmanville goals were by Neil Gerrits, on a 18 yd. hard drive and by Richard Bateman off a rebound. The team travelled to Newmarket Newmarket on Aug. 30th and Sept. 1st to compete in a representative representative soccer tournament. Game 1 was against the host team Newmarket. Andrew Laing scored the first for Bowmanville. The second by Sean 'Digger' Brown, was a special goal for him because it was the first goal of his rep- resentive career. The third goal was by Colin Taggart off a pass from Trever McDonald. McDonald. Once more our amazing centre, halfback put it over the line for goal number number 4. After his second goal Sean was heard to say "I'm going for 3". The final tally was 4-3 for Bowmanville. Game 2 against Epiphany ended in a 2-2 tie. This game more resembling "Roller Derby' than soccer got off to a Dumpy start. First there was a shirt mix up then a confrontation confrontation between by-standers. Special congratulations, on his honesty to Mr. Rick "sit on it" Brown for having the ability to call "a spade, a spade" and the lively entertainment he provides for us parents when Betsy lets him accompany the team. Great defensive action by Evan Davies, Jeff White, and Philip Plath. Trever scored the first Bowmanville Bowmanville goal on a solid run, through opposition. The second second goal started with a rebound rebound off the Epiphany goalkeeper. goalkeeper. Andrew quickly picked up the play and fired in. Not a bad finish for a very choppy game. Game 3 against St. Andrew's ended in a 5-1 loss for Bowmanville. Bowmanville. Michael Suess scored the lone goal. This was a very aggressive team and game. Game 4 against Ajax went in Bowmanville's favour. This game will go down as "Perfection "Perfection Personified". The whole team pulled, worked, defended and attacked to a 8-0 win. Goal one was by Neil on a perfect head ball off Sean's corner kick. Evan made a super slide tackle to save an open net space from a possible Ajax goal. Trever scored goal two by beating two defence- men. Trever popped in another and goal three off a- pass from Colin. Brian Cullen, j goalkeeper, made a magnifi-;. cent save on a direct kick. His- "on the line" playing ability* earned him his well deserved" shut-out. Chris Yeo scored goal four and continued persistant persistant forward attack. . After the interval, Michael scored goal five on a break through. Richard scored goal six after moving around three defence players. Neil put in goal number seven with his lethal shot. Sean put a "bumper" goal over the line for goal number eight and his. personal 3rd for his perdicted hat-trick. This win which had to be a 7 goal spread or better put Bow-, manville in a position to play the championship game. The, final game for the trophy was against St. Andrew's soccer club. This team is incredibly skilled but they consistantly resort to very unsportsman like conduct on the field."Sour Grapes?" Enough said. The final outcome of the game was 6-1 for St. Andrew's. After numerous injuries, insults and: one lone goal on an untripped; break-away by Trever the team entered the spotlight to receive medallions and a team trophy. It was worth the drive.-' Congratulations to all players. The team travelled the foi- 1 lowing evening Sept. 2,- to- Oshawa to play the Turul club' in a one game knock-out, play-' off game. The boys seemed defeated as ' soon as they' dragged their tired selves onto 1 the turf. The Bowmanville! boys showed little of their fire' red colour and were defeated' 5-2. Goals were by Sean and!
