The annual Bowmanville Santa Claus Parade is celebrating its 25th anniversary anniversary this Christmas season. The parade committee consists of nine volunteers this year, however four of the members will be leaving leaving at the conclusion of the 1986 project for various reasons. Committee member Darla Allan urges anyone interested in helping helping out, who might like to continue on the following year, to volunteer. The committee committee can always use extra hands or "new blood". "When new people join the committee we get new ideas, fresh thoughts and different contacts," said Darla Allan. Positions such as float organizer, organizer, costume person, clown person and filler organizer organizer will come available next season. Even if someone someone was interested in helping helping out for a few hours it would be appreciated. Committee members are generally expected to attend attend four or five meetings and fulfill their set duties. There will be an anniversary anniversary float this year in honour honour of the 25 years gone by. In addition, the committee is hoping to receive more floats and fillers, which are smaller versions of floats or walk-ins. Service clubs that have entered floats or fillers fillers in the past are urged to do so again this year. Anyone interested in entering entering a float or helping out should contact Edie Cole, before Thanksgiving at 623- 3635 or at 623-2405 after Thanksgiving. This year the annual Santa Claus Parade buttons will be designed differently and therefore considered a collector's item. The buttons buttons will be available in all Bowmanville banks, most variety stores and the Self- Serve Shell station in town. Some Courtice, Newcastle and Orono stores will also be carrying the buttons this year. The collector's items will sell for a minimum of 50 cents each, however, the donation is left up to the purchaser. "It is a community parade and sponsored by the community, community, said Darla Allan. "Without support there wouldn't be one."
