Composers' Brass presents a full concert series in Toronto, and are regularly asked to perform at other venues in the Toronto region. They have been heard often on the CBC-FM programs, "Two New Hours" and "Music Around Us." They are planning concerts across Ontario in the 1986-87 season. Composers' Brass has presented numerous Canadian premieres and ten commissioned pieces, many of which were recorded on their two record album, The Composers' Brass -- Canadian Anthology. For these projects, they were awarded grants by the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council. (Students Against Drunk Driving) Approximately a year ago, a conference was held at the Glen House Conference Conference Centre at Gananoque. In attendance was Anne Marks and Mr. Lukaszewicz. The conference was put on April 14-16 by the staff and S.A.D.D. of South Grenville. Here ideas were given and pamphlets distributed on how to start a S.A.D.D. chapter. During the conference ideas were given on publicity, publicity, the role of the police, and students as leaders in social issues. S.A.D.D. is being advertised advertised with a poster contest and a Courtice crest contest. contest. Pamphlets are being distributed at the 25th reunion, reunion, commencement, and parents night. Posters will be distributed distributed to Hobbs, liquor stores etc. A float will also be entered in the Santa Claus Parade. Cathy Vivian Fundraising C.S.S. fundraising is back! Again this year, starting on October 2nd, hundreds of students are selling as many chocolate bars as is humanly possible. The money raised will go towards the purchase of a V.H.S. video camera to be used by both students and staff members. The money will also be used to supply a vending machine for the cafeteria, and to put up banners banners in the gym to indicate our winning teams. The prizes this year are as follows: highest overall seller seller wins a small colour television television set. Each top grade level seller wins a walkman. For every 20 bars sold, you get a free chocolate chocolate bar, and for every ten bars sold, you get one chance in the draw for a compact disc player. Good Luck! Frank Canonico Out and About The Outers' Club is open to any student in the school The individuals of the quintet bring to it a wealth of experience as members of the Canadian Opera Company, Stratford Festival and National Ballet Orchestras, The Symphony Orchestras of Toronto, Kitchener, London, Hamilton and Niagara, as well as the big bands for such artists as Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett and Harry Belafonte. Highlighting their program in the Newcastle Town Hall, October 26th at 7:30 p.m. will be Elizabethan Dances from Holborne, Pirates of Penzance Suite from Gilbert and Sullivan and songs from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. There is a leak in the pipe system which is currently being fixed. When the water system is fixed and ready to go, tests will have to be conducted. The water will be purged for a few days. As soon as clean, clear, water appears, it will be tested and hooked up. 25th Reunion The 25th Reunion was held Friday, October 10th and Saturday, October 11th who. would like to participate in various various outdoor activities. On October 1 the club members hiked from - the Petroglyphs ■ Provincial Park to High River Falls. In February, they plan to go to Blue Mountain for a ski outing. outing. Sports Golf On October 2nd a Dyssa golf championship took place. The senior team finished 10th, Barry Newhook had a score of 81, and Ken Cameron had 82. Scott Rekker who played in the junior division finished second in the low gross category category with a round of 84. Basketball The Senior Girls played a hard fought game on October October 1st. Alma Hill scored 19 points, but unfortunately lost with a score of 48-35. The Junior Girls beat Donevan on October 1st with a score of 58-37. The scorers were Lisa Shulga, Sylvia Iantomasi, Lori Glazier and Lucille Van- derhayden. Way to go girls!! The girls' Midget team was defeated on October 8 to G.L. Roberts. A fine effort was displayed by all the girls. Also on October 8 the Junior Girls won an exciting exciting game over G.L. Roberts. The score was 43-41. Soccer On October 1st, the boys' senior soccer team played a fine game with Durham Christian. The score was Courtice 6, and Durham Christian 2. The senior boys' soccer team is still undefeated. They played on October 6th against Paul Dwyer, the score was 4-0. The junior soccer team played in the final league game on October 6th. They defeated Paul Dwyer by a score of 3-1. iV < ^Çongratuiatioris.H , Tennis' On October 6th thei boys' singles and doubles teams played at Iroquois Park in Whitby. Congratulations to George Mammone who played extremely well in the consolation round and just missed out of the finals.
