Club President Chuck Rout says that the organization organization currently has 17 swimmers swimmers on its membership rolls and training takes place at the Newcastle Fitness Fitness Centre five days per week in the afternoons or evenings. The club is open to young athletes age seven and up. The Bowmanville Major Atom Toros, sponsored by Canadian Tire, completed a busy few days, playing three games in five days, winning all three and allowing just five goals while scoring 19. The Toros defeated Millbrook, Port Hope and the Black Hawks from the Oshawa L.N.H.L. On Wednesday evening, the highly touted Millbrook Major Atoms paid a visit to Darlington Darlington Arena and quickly jumped into a 2-0 lead, catching Bowmanville Bowmanville napping, before two minutes had elapsed in the game. The Toros' Jason Crosbie Crosbie got one back with the assist on the play going to Collin Taggert. Crosbie scored again to tie the game, assisted by Doug Parkin. Only 33 seconds remained in the opening opening period when the visitors scored to go ahead. Both clubs exchanged goals in the middle frame, Parkin the trigger- man for Bowmanville, assisted assisted by Gary Adams and defenceman defenceman Mark Bradley. The Toros completely dominated the final period, scoring eight unanswered goals. Richard Bateman scored, assisted by "Chuck" Carr and Jason Hoffman. Dump Port Hope 4-0 The Port Hope Major Atoms came to Darlington Arena on Sat., Nov. 1st for an O.M.H.A. League game, with the Toros winning to the tune of 4-0 in a rather physical game. The "Tiremen" scored the only goal of the opening period, Jeff Murphy the marksman on a clever passing play engineered by his line- mates Ryan Ferguson and "Chuck" Carr. Ryan Robinson Robinson picked up the only marker of the middle period, the assist going to Doug Parkin. Bowmanville Bowmanville scored two more goals in the final frame, Robinson picking up his second on a great solo effort. Sean Brown scored a pretty goal, moving in from his point position on a play engineered by Carr and defenceman Jason Crosbie. Steve Oke, in goal for the Toros, was full value for the shutout, making several difficult difficult stops. This was the second shutout for the Toros in five league games. Defeat Oshawa 7-1 On Sunday evening, the Major Atoms journeyed to Children's Arena in Oshawa for an exhibition game against the first place Black Hawks, the Toros winning to the tune of 7-1. Both clubs had excellent scoring chances in the opening period but both goaltenders were equal to the task. Jason Crosbie scored the first goal of the game, unassisted. Richard Bateman, playing on the wing for this game, scored on a slick play, assisted by Sean Brown and Jeff White. Oshawa picked up their only goal with 58 seconds remaining remaining in the middle period. Bowmanville took complete control of the game in the final period, scoring five unanswered unanswered goals. Bateman notched his second on a beautiful solo effort. Ryan Robinson scored on a nifty play set up by Steve Deblois. Deblois scored the fifth Toro goal, assisted by Crosbie and Collin Taggert. Jeff Murphy, who had a good game, scored on a great passing passing play engineered by his centreman "Chuck" Carr. Carr scored the last goal of the game, assisted by Murphy and defenceman Chad Vander- ende who played a solid game. Steve Oke was very steady in goal, making several key stops to pick up the win. The defensive corps have been solid, and the forwards have been backchecking with a little more determination and with the solid goaltending of Oke, the club is sporting a goals-against average of less than 1.5 per game. Saturday, November 1st the Atom Toro B team met up with a very well matched team from Port Perry. But with a lot of hard work and full effort from each boy, they came away on top with a score of 4-3. Goals and assists for the Toros were: Mike Suess 1 goal and 2 assists, Wayde Putnam 1 goal and l assist, Tracy Lemke 1 goal and 1 assist and Jamie Brake 1 goal. Sunday, November 2nd the Atom Toro B team travelled to Cobourg but were not as successful successful as before. The first period score was 1-1 and remained remained that way until the 3rd period where Cobourg went ahead. The Cobourg team were out to avenge the loss they had taken from the Toro B team and played a very agressive game. They came up with 3 big goals which gave them a win of 4-1 over the Toros. Although our boys never gave up throughout the game, they just couldn't get things together. A great effort by the boys. The lone goal was scored by Chris McCarthy and assisted by Mike Nesbitt and Alan McCullough. We'll get them next time boys. Jimmy's Lose to Adam and Eve On Saturday, Nov. 1, Jimmy's' came out ready to win their first game after two ties, but It was not to be. Adam and Eve outhustled and outplayed outplayed Jimmy's In the first two periods, but we still came up short by 4 goals. Goals for Jimmy's were- scored by David Chambers with a hat trick and one assist. The other goal was scored by Darryl Cook. Well done boys I The final score was 8-4 for Adam and Evo.
