Better Use for Hydro Funds . by Rob Savage The Ontario Hydro Impact Impact Funds are not being used to their full advantage. He told citizens that money from the fund could be used to provide services to different land sites, mak ing the land attractive to new businesses. The mayor said the new businesses would then be able to offer employment to the anticipated 4500 people who will be out of work when construction of the Darlington Generating Station Station is completed. That completion is anticipated anticipated in about five years' time. Ilis plan is based on the intent of the Ontario Hydro Impact Fund which was first created when Hydro was negotiating with the town for the site near Holt Road and Lake Ontario. And the other was to offset the impact on employment employment when the construction construction work is completed. completed. The mayor said the potential potential funding for the anticipated anticipated unemployment could be substantial, since Darlington Darlington currently pays $4 million a week to its employees. employees. INSTANT PASSPORT PHOTOS OAHÀWA GAMIAA CfNinC LTD 728-4631 OSHAWA SHOPPINQ CENTRE (ACROSS HIOMIIIQ IH0NCCCWIIEI To the Editor: I wish to address the recent new home owners in the northwest northwest Courtice area. Recently, under "Courtice News" in your Statesman I read, once again, of disatisfaction disatisfaction from these residents concerning parks, parkettes, schools, water and sewer. May I ask these people if, when they consider buying a $50 pair of shoes, do they consider the need, colour, style, serviceability etc., yet, when purchasing a home over $100,000 they did not investigate investigate - schools, library, sports facilities, water systems, sewers or garbage disposal before they purchased. The lack or inadequacy of these facilities should not be a surprise surprise to them. I was raised in Courtice from birth till marriage on well water which sometimes froze in the winter, septic tanks that became filled, 2- 1/ 2 mile bikes to a one room eight grade school and 2-1/ 2 miles to Courtice High School (which contrary to some local people's belief gave myself and my friends an excellent education), 5 mile trips through through unploughed roads to the arena, and many trips to the local dump site. All of this through a choice of my parents parents as this is a democratic country and we have freedom of choice in locating our homes. Our politicians are trying to keep the growth of our taxes at a reasonable rate. Have you considered the cost of upkeep on many parkettes, which are too small to accommodate satisfactory satisfactory sports activities, as opposed to one larger location? location? Those who are complaining complaining about children crossing crossing busy roads should consider that children too young to venture out alone into areas of potential accidents, abductions, abductions, and bullies might require require an accompanying adult or be confined to the safety of their own yards with a few friends. Those living in the northwest of Oshawa probably spend more travelling time to reach their library than Courtice Courtice residences do reaching Bowmanville. Oshawa tax payers are using your Town of Newcastle arenas' ice time due to lack of availability in their own city. Our council are trying their best to satisfy the most important important needs in one of the fastest growing areas in Ontario today. today. Realizing the criticism extended from the Courtice area Lexpect many of them will be Running in the next - election ) in ' dr dir ' > to : devote many daytime and most evening evening hours, to satisfy all of the Town of Newcastle taxpayers, : take constant criticism, operate operate a multi-million dollar business business of other people's tax dollars and all to discover that "Rome wasn't built in a day." I now live in the town of Bowmanville near the facilities facilities we chose for our family, but, through church we are still affiliated with the Courtice Courtice area and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I wish the new Courtice residences a sense of growing in a caring community as I did, but, please have some understanding and patience. Sincerely Anonymous Dear Sir: We have suffered the loss (at separate times) of two beautiful and loving Labrador Retrievers over the past two years. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that both were stolen. I'm also convinced convinced they were stolen by a thief or thieves who knew exactly what they were doing doing. I would like to compile a list of suspected stolen dogs from this area over the past year or two. If you are convinced that your dog was stolen then I would appreciate your taking the time to provide me with the following information: 1. Your name, address and telephone. 2. Description of the dog. 3. Location where it was last seen. 4; Approximate date of disappearance. disappearance. 5. Did your dog usually stay around home or did it tend to wander? 6. What steps did you take to try and find it? 7. Any other details you think might be helpful. For example you may have seen vehicles, or people, in your area at the time, or before, which possibly possibly caused you to "look twice". If I don't hear from anyone then I'll try to convince myself that our community does not have a problem, and my dogs ■simply vanished into thin air. However, I'm very much afraid that we do have a problem, the question is - just how big is it? W.R. Stewart R.R.4,Bennett Rd. Bowmanville, Ont. The Memorial Hospital has been split into four separate support groups: Clinical and Diagnostic Services, Administrative and Office Support, Medical Medical Services and Support Services. Each of these groups will have chairmen, which' ! in return will report to the quality assurance cd- : ordfn'Utor. Based on each of the chairmen's reports, using their own departmental criteria, the co-ordinator will report to the Hospital Board. Richard Elston, hospital executive director, said he hopes to have the committee committee in operation by the end of December, with their first formal report given at the January Board meeting. Since this type of committee committee is now mandatory for an accredited hospital, Memorial Memorial Hospital Bowmanville should have their committee committee underway when they come up for accreditation in 1987.
