i 20 The Canadian Statesman, Central Public School News The Regional Police Station by Class 201 and 203 We went all the way from Central School to the new police station. It took us twenty minutes to walk there. When we got there, we stopped to have a rest and to catch our breath. We met the police constable and he showed us the cell The bed was so hard and it was made of steel. The cell had a steel sink, The door slid open. There were buttons to open it and close it. We went downstairs to see the gym. We saw an exërcise bike, weights, and a punching bag. He showed us the garage with the lost bikes. We saw the constable's walkie talkie, and heard a voice on it. We saw pictures of all the police who work in Bowmanvilie. We are lucky to have the police to help us. We were happy to visit the new police station. Computer Workshop 1 by Andrew Làing On Thursday, Oct. 23,1 went to a computer workshop in Cobourg. I learned to use the program Newsroom. I worked with another student on the computer which we shared. We designed a one page newspaper which contained three articles. The first of these articles described King Tut escaping from his tomb. The second, told about a pig who became human and won first prize in a corn eating contest. The third reported the appearance of a dinosaur roaming about in swamps in our area. ; The part I liked the best was choosing the pictures I wanted to use. The part I didn't like was laying out our newspaper. . After it was printed, it wasn't as we had planned, but it was my first time so I didn't mind. I had a good time there and I learned something, so I was happy., Pizza Party for Press by Keith Fisher and Kim Wright On Tuesday, December 2, Central School Press Club met for lunch in room 201. We had a pizza party as a treat for the press club. Most of the press elùb members were there. Also Mrs. Greenway and Mrs. Fier were there. Andy Cormier and Robbie Bothwell made popcorn for us. We played several games of seven up because it was raining outside. . It was fun. My Trip to the Royal Ontario Museum by Jason Mothersill I was picked from Central Public School to go to the Royal Ontario Museum. One student was chosen from each school in the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education. A total of forty-five students were to meet at the Flying Dutchman at 8:30 on Wednesday morning the 26th of November. Once on the bus, I made friends with the other students and talked about our trip called 'A Walk Trough the Past." We arrived at the museum at 9:30 a.m. and split up into two groups. Our group went to the main floor and into a large room with a variety of different exhibits to give the visitors an idea of what the museum collects. After that we went downstairs to see the rocks and minerals, some worth billions of dollars. We also saw armour and weapons used for war and hunting dating back to the stone age. Other smaller interesting collections were: fish, animal and human teeth, stamps and coins. On the second floor we saw hundreds of old instruments including: a guitar with twenty-six strings, a fiddle that was six inches long and a musical instrument that's shaped like a sea serpent. There was also a very large collection of old furniture and valuable paintings. At 12:00 o'clock we went to the museum's cafeteria to eat lunch. After eating we went to the third floor to look at real stuffed animals from around the world. One of the most interesting things we saw were the Egyptian mummies and the shrunken heads. Then we went back down to the second floor to see dinosaurs and fossils that were over seventy-five million years old. We saw a dinosaur called Tyrannosaurus Rex which was twelve metres high and teeth fifteen centimetres long. Some of the fossils were as big as 3 metres long and had complete images of: birds, fish and plants. This exhibit was the most interesting to me. We were told that the museum museum is adding an addition on more wild life, We arrived back in ■ Bowmanvilie at 3:55 pan. I found this trip very interesting and fun. I think the Royal Ontario Museum Is a great place for people to learn about the past. v v-X-l'.vv-'< - V- .y • Y> 1 IB IÊÊÊÊÊ Is » BE 1^1 EW#; W IÜIÉÿ:,/ WiîïM) : & 6Ü.v ; Bi ■V- v :.:; Z 5 v- t||IEîiEÉ y V? : 5i î)Sp mmm I » ■ m r k jp r® M hm is.D Bowmanvilie» December 10, 1986 > 'r - • . : '-x .. • : : ' ' ' ■ . ■ ■ I '■ | - " ■- . ; ■" r ' ■ V. : : ■ ■. • - ■ ... ■ .; . ..'...".I.
