CB T JUITL lUrLuMOt £ Council Briefs Town council confirmed a decision made at last week's General Purpose Committee meeting to award a contract for sidewalk clearing to G. W. S. Landscaping in Bowmanville. Bowmanville. The decision was made "forthwith" at the GPA meeting and G. W. S. Landscaping Landscaping had already begun its contractual work for the town prior to Monday's final decision. The move follows some earlier concern about the low bidding price offered by G. W. S. The company had said it could do the work for $652 per call out, which was $400 cheaper than the only other bidding company. Councillors had wanted a review of the bidding process process to learn how such a great cost difference could exist. But they have now agreed to award the contract to G. W. S. Public Works Deputy Director Director David Gray added last week that his department department has been satisfied • with the previous jobs performed performed for the town by G. W. S- . Council was a-dittie-bit curious about a "heated dis- ; ciis'sion" which' arose at the V Nov,3 meeting of the Clarke Township Museum Board. The discussion, which Councillor Diane Hamre took part in, was based on the town's recent inquiries into a possible third storage facility for museum artifacts artifacts from the Clarke and Bowmanville museums. According to Councillor Hamre, the "heated discussion" discussion" arose because one board member felt the plan was just a stalling tactic to delay the storage problems currently faced by both museums. At the same time, council was curious about the money currently being saved by the museum board. The Clarke Museum board has $13,300 in bonds and $18,694 in a savings account. account. Councillor Ann Cowman wondered if it was normal practice for a museum to have such funds on reserve. Councillor Hamre then explained that the museum received funds a few years ago from the Ontario Hydro Impact Fund for the Darlington Darlington Generating Station and was ordered to save the money for the anticipated future expansion. She said the money would be used to offset the municipality's municipality's costs when an expansion expansion does occur.
