The dinner was held at the St. John's Ang- Annual Goodyear Canada Inc. dinner for retired em- ücan Church on Monday, December 8. Opposite those at the head table were the many retirees who arrived for the annual Christmas meal. In total, 91 people took part in the event. On Monday, December 8th 69 members of - the Goodyear Retirees Club met for their annual Christmas Christmas dinner in St. John's Hall, and once again were catered to by the Martha group of St. John's Church. A well prepared meal was enjoyed by all, and Tom Gatchell expressed thanks on behalf of the gathering. Rev. Byron Yates had said Grace and a Toast to the Queen had preceded the meal. After the meal Walter Woolley was invited to the head table as the oldest member in attendance. Norman Allison, on behalf of the group presented a gift to Ken Nichols to give his wife for her thoughtful contribution contribution of cookies etc. at different meetings. Ab Mavin expressed the thanks of the members to the Executive, particularily Don Hannah, Dick Leddy and Paul Armstrong for the many jobs they do so willingly willingly and efficiently. President Potter presented presented Rev. Yates with a cheque for $100 for the Church. Rev. Yates expressed expressed his thanks and hoped the group would continue to use the facilities of the Church. Our U.C.W. is to take charge of the service on January 11, 1987 to -commemorate 25 years since the,Ladies' Aid and later the Women's Association Association became known as the United Church Women. Yelverton White Gift Sun, is to be Dec. 14. The Sunday School is taking part and later a tree and pot luck dinner dinner will be held in the hall. Follwoing this Jean O'Neill, acting as Santa, distributed the gifts from under the Christmas tree. The remainder of the evening was spent playing euchre. Deepest sympathy is expressed to Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Haines and family of Tyrone on the death of a dear daughter and sister Leanne - Tuesday night as the result of a fatal car accident. Xmas Supper December 6th, Saturday evening, Haydon's Christmas Pot Luck supper and concert was held in the Community Centre. A good crowd was in attendance and following supper, several of the ladies gathered in the kitchen to do dishes. The men straightened up the front room and re-arranged the chairs and under the leadership of our M.C. Barb Walsh sang Christmas Carols. Then the following took part in the entertainment: Lisa Liptay played a Christmas instrumental on the piano and to be outdone her brother Sean Liptay played a couple of selections on the piano. Then Katrina Liptay recited a poem. Brian and Brenda Neilsen and Sadie Graham sang a couple of little tunes. Cincy Cochrane was next, and she had a poem. Little Sarah Dewsberry sanyher A.B.C's song. Elizabeth and Veronica Savage recited a poem and sang. Barb Walsh had a poem "The tale of Mortimer Mouse". Jeanetta Grawburger sang a little song. Blanche Jones had a reading entitled "I Suppose You Are Ready For Christmas and I Hate You". Kyle and Barbara Graham had an amusing gimmick of a duck who could do math as Kyle asked it to - danced, drank and jumped down on the floor and walked which amused young and old - all managed by Barb and her trusty puppet gadget. After the children fairly murdered the Jingle Bell song - Santa Claus finally arrived - My what a difference - as each child waited patiently to be called up by Santa's helper Wendy Blackburn - to sit on Santa's knee, get their goodies and a real treat, some of his magic powder to make three wishes on.
