Early this month, Chief of Police Jon Jenkins and the Police Association announced announced that 48 of these firearms would be distributed distributed among the Durham Regional Police. The issue was first brought forward in early spring, when the cruisers had the special gun mounts installed between the driver and passenger seats. Signing out a shotgun is left to the discretion of the police officer. "There may be times when an officer is asked to take a shotgun with him. Durham Course Receives Dental Accreditation The Durham College Dental Assistant and Dental Hygiene programs have received national accreditation status from the Canadian Dental Association. Accreditation is granted for a five year period. In applying for accreditation the College submitted a detailed report on the two programs, their curriculum, personnel, facilities and resources. The report was studied by the C.D.A. Council on Education and Accreditation, which then visited the College to tour the facilities and interview staff and students over a three day period. "Accreditation is an important facet of dental health programs, as it ensures the parameters of academic and clinical experience provided to the student. All Community College and University Dental Programs arc reviewed for accreditation status to encourage specific standards of education throughout Canada" said Hclgn Cuddy, Department Head. When Dental Hygiene students apply to the Royal College of Dental Surgeons for licensing, the C.D.A. accreditation exempts them from the written examination.
