Sand and Gravel Selects Sporting Strong Record The Select Bantam team has played eight games in last few weeks and has so far this season compiled a seven win, one tie and one loss record. During this time there have been some strong performances by a number of players. For example, the goal keeping pair of Michael Ruthard and Scott Hanthorn have turned in strong performances making stops when they had to. The Vanderhaÿden cousins Martin and Jan continue to play well together, creating many chances with good accurate passes and the ability to get into open areas. Other notable performances have come from Steven Bizi who has worked hard in every game making excellent clean checks and from Richard MacCheyne and Marc Peirce who are able to get the puck in the net. The last game the team played was against Kingsview and Bowmanville won, the score being 5-4. Kingsview opened the scoring when they created confusion around the Selects' net and capitalized on the chance. It was three minutes later that Bowmanville got their first goal. David Kichko scored after some good work by Scott Seleck and Jan set up the opportunity. The second period was dominated by the Selects as they scored two more, the first by Martin assisted by Scott and Jan which came on Martin's second shot as the opposing goalkeeper made a good stop on the first shot. The next goal was scored by Steven, a nice goal which resulted from some heads up play by Jeremy Snowden and Gilbert Holder. The third period was exciting as both teams were called for infractions and Kingsview played with a great deal of intensity. Kingsview cut the lead to one goal and then a good solo effort by Ian Knight opened the margin by two. Kingsview scored again and then Marc scored assisted by Richard. The opposition finished the scoring setting up an exciting final two minutes as Bowmanville defended their lead.
