Entry Deadline in the Tyke Division is January 3,1987 for the tournament being held on Saturday, February February 14. In Novice hockey, the entry deadline for the' Monday, March 16, tournament is February 7. To qualify for the Atom tournament, entries must be submitted by February 7. The tournament will take place Tuesday, March 17. TOURNEY HELP NEEDED -- In order to make these five tournaments a success the Bowmanville Recreation Recreation Hockey League needs your help. Kool Enterprises Extend Lead On Sal., Dec. 20, Kool met Square Boy in a Bantam House League game and came away will) a 4-2 victory. The game marked the halfway point of the regular season and left Kool with a record of 7-2-1 and a 3 point lead in the standings. Square Boy came out skating, hitting and shooting hard, carrying the play to Kool for the first period, The game was scoreless until 5 minutes had clasped in the second period when Kool started to come on and opened the scoring on three fine individual efforts and excellent team play. Richard MacCheyne won the draw and drew it back towards Billy MacIntyre who directed the puck to Steve Bizi at the point, as Billy scrcchcd the would ho checker Steve stepped in unopposed and blasted a low shot home. Before the period ended, Richard and Billy teamed up again, executing a play they practiced, to extend Kool's lead to 2-0. Rich carried the puck into the offensive zone, drew the defense and look his shot. Billy crossed into the cleared zone and was all alone as he grabbed the rebound and slid It home. With the score 2-1 late in the third the "late" Bryan James took a pass from Richard Smit and raced down the Wing. When the defense committed, he found Mike Colbourne all alone in the slot, Mike onc- limcd a hard shot behind the surprized goaltcnder. Richard MacCheyne closed out the scoring, rifling in a shot after Steve Bizi had out fought three opponents to control the puck and set him up. Atom Bs Win 6 B' Crown In Cobourg On Sunday, Dec. 21st, the Atom B team travelled to Cobourg to play an 8 o'clock game against Cobourg in their tournament. First period action was all Cobourg, they scored /three quick goals while the B team was caught sleeping. But, Bowmanville woke up the the second and finally saw the net. Our first goal came at the 2:23 mark of the second when Chris Aitken fired it to Tracy Lemke who passed it to Alan McCullough who scored Bowmanville's first goal. Then Chris McCarthy got it over to Jeff White who "parked" it in the net. End of the 2nd 3-1 Cobourg. Third period action started with Cobourg scoring 2 more unanswered goals. Then Bowmanville rallied together when Tracy Lemke skated down the ice to find Jeff White in the clear to get his second of the game. Then Mike Nesbitt skated down the ice, carrying the puck, heading straight for the net and drilling it passed the goalie. Bowmanville worked hard in this game but came away losing it to Cobourg 5-4. Bowmanville vs Oshawa Canadians After the disappointment of losing to Cobourg the boys knew what they had to do. It was up to them. Now they either wanted to win or go home. With the final score being 5-0 Bowmanville everyone knew what was in the boys' hearts. They played as a team and worked hard for their victory. Jamie Doyle received another shutout for his hard work. Bowmanville vs Bolton Well, it was on the the "B" Championship playing a team from Bolton. The Bowmanville boys were ready for action. They wanted to go home winners. And that's just what they did. They walked away with a 10-1 victory and another trophy on their shelf. The final goal was scored by Jeff Finney halfway through the third period on a pass from Jason Frnyno. A and R Flooring has played well during the 19116 part of the schedule. All the players are up for the games and practices and seem to be enjoying themselves thoroughly. Hopefully, the pace will remain the same In the new year. Checkers Variety Atoms Defeat Manvers 4-2 The Checkers Variety Atom B team played a very exciting game against Omemee on Dec. 13th. It was slow starting, but the mighty Toros were not to be under estimated. They played hard from start to finish, winning the game 3-0. Our goalie, Jamie Doyle, played an outstanding game and was on the ball for every shot. The scoring didn't start till the second period when Mike Nesbitt sent it flying over to Doug Parkin to score the first goal of the game. In the third period 2 more goals were scored. Mike Nesbitt passed to Jeff White who parked on the end, of Doug Parkin's stick when he scored his second of the game. On the final goal, Tyson Pearcey passed to Tracy Lemke who saw Wayde Putnam in the clear. Then Wayde parked it in the net, making it another win for the Atom Toro B team. It was a different story on Sunday, Dec. 14th when the boys came up against a very good club from Oshawa. Although they skated hard and it was end to end hockey, they came away losing. The final score was 7-3 for the Oshawa Major Red Wings. Goals and assists were: Jeff White from Mike Suess and Chad Veniot; Tyson Pearcey from Chris McCarthy and Mike Suess; Mike Nesbitt from Doug Parkin and Jeff White. For the third day in a row the Atom *B' team were on the ice, Dec. 15th. But they were ready. It was the first time they played Manvers in a league game. The B team had Heritage House Loses to Oshawa On Saturday, Jan. 3 the Heritage House Pee Wees hosted the Canadians of the Oshawa Little N.H.L. for the Young Canada Day Tournament. Tournament. The Toros appeared pumped up for this game and it showed in the first period. There was no scoring but the Toros played aggressively, out shooting the Canadians by a wide margin and just missing on a number of good chances. Oshawa scored early in the second and that proved to be the lone goal of the period. The Toros fought back in the third when Ryan Stewart slipped one beneath the goalie to tie the game at one, assists going to Tyler Stokes and Dan Couillard who did some hard work in the corners, The tie didn't last long as Oshawa scored two quick goals to really put the Toros in a hole but the hero didn't give up. With 53 seconds remaining, MattDykstra took a beautiful, from behind the net pass from game M.V.P. Brad Johnston and beat the goalie cleanly. David Real also earned an assist on the play by making a good pass to Brad, That's how the game ended, The Heritage House Pee Wees put out a good effort but didn't get the bounces. Final Canadians 3 - Toros 2, to play hard but steady and with a whole team effort they came out ahead with the final score 4-2 Bowmanville. The goaltending by Jamie Doyle was excellent. The boys passed the puck around, showing the ability they had been given. They scored goals from alot of hard work and passing the puck to the man in the clear.
