Couple Helps Birds Get Through Winter Louise and Ted Boricic have been setting the table for about 100 guests every day this winter. But they find the effort is well worthwhile. worthwhile. The visitors, you see, are the bluejays, grossbeaks, mourning doves, chickadees, chickadees, hairy woodpeckers, and several other species which frequent their feeding feeding stations at their home near Orono. This year's number of wild birds is a new record for the Orono area couple, who have been putting out the sunflower seeds, bread crumbs, and mixed birdseed for about four or five years. They started to feed them in November of this winter and the birds consume ap proximately four five-kilogram five-kilogram packages of nourishment nourishment per week, flying to the feeder from a thicket of trees immediately across the road. The Boricics are amply rewarded for their efforts by a winter-long demonstration demonstration of winged wildlife just outside their living room window. And the birds, for their part, receive the food they need to make it through the winter. It's the sort of arrangement arrangement which seems to suit all parties perfectly. And it's made one residence residence off regional road 42 a winter "bird sanctuary." See this week's editorial page for a photograph of one of the Boricics' winter guests. Students in drama classes at Courtice Secondary School spent most of Thursday, January 8, performing performing short skits at some of the local schools. The above group performed "Snow White and the Six Dwarfs" in the afternoon at St. Stephen's School. The dwarfs gathered around the stage wondering if a kiss by the frog (Mike Harris) would awaken Snow White (Lucille Vanderheyden) from her poison-induced sleep. The grade one's and two's did some great choral reading and then came all the junior grades in a play called "A Song for Christmas". The acting in this play was good, the singing was excellent and the props and scenery were also very well done. One prop in particular, the organ, was great and showed good imagination. All performers did an excellent excellent job, but one boy, Jason Watson deserves a special mention for his outstanding outstanding solo. BRIDES-TO-BE . . . Enniskillen Concert By Mike Salo (Grade 11, C.II.S.) On Wednesday, December December 17th, Enniskillen Public School put on their annual Christmas concert. As usual there were delicious delicious items at the bake sale and there were about 1000 tickets sold for the raffle. The junior kindergarten class was first and then the seniors were on. They were both very cute and they performed performed well. Next on, were the grade sixes with a French rendition of "Jingle Bell Rock". The ideas and choreography were excellent excellent and original and only one small mistake was made. Two boys rolled into each other but this only added more humor to the performance.
