Everything is getting back to normal following the big holidays so we now just have one Sunday a week - Now everyone can remember what day it is - And with this mild weather we are having, each of us who hasn't got the flu is really enjoying it. Shame on those folks who deserted to Florida. Club 21 Meeting Club 21 ladies met at our Centre Monday, January 12 at 8 p.m. Bev Cochrane acting as chairperson for Group One opened the meeting with "Every body-Nobody- Somebody" and remarked it put her very much in mind of our club and she hoped we could all work together this year. Jan Mayer read a letter pertaining to getting our streets upgraded. Treasurer gave her annual report showing we hadn't done too badly. She then called for a new treasurer. Mrs. Anita Dewsbury offered her services quite promptly. So she and Bev will meet in the near future to attend to business. The business of our thoughts of our shut-ins brought last year's committee offering their services again - and the Seniors who are not shut-ins count up to eight - multiplied by 5 - resulted in our plans to make a contribution to the North Courtice School in that amount. This met with approvement from all of the ladies. Collection was taken - 17 ladies present. Lynne Liptay introduced our guest speaker, Mrs. Anita Foggerty of Enfield who is from the continent of Australia. She had put out cloth calenders, Jigsaw puzzles already put together and a map hanging of Australia. She, her husband and little daùghter had arrived in Canada, Mother's Day 1978 after twenty-nine hours of flying time. She spoke of many differences between her country and Canada. Weather - heat being one big difference. Farming is quite different also. Hay is not put in barns, stacked with a covering on it. There are few bams and cattle stay out the year round. Two types of farmers - cattle grazers and the crop farmers with the grazers as the money makers. Their post office runs the telegram and telephones. The railroads are run by the government. June 1st is the first of Winter and can become very, very windy. In the spring after the rains, the grasses grow very tall but by the time summer is over, which is very hot, ranges are very dry. Snakes some poisonous are numerous. She commented on the course she and her husband went through to be able to come to Canada and one can imagine the problems of becoming accustomed to our ways. If we (each country) would just have the same names for the same objects, it would help considerably. Bev had a few reels of Australia that Anita showed on the screen and commented on while Bev and Lynne' prepared lunch. Wes le y ville Congratulations to Orald Ford who celebrated a special birthday on January 3rd. All members of her family were present to share the day, and the 15 of them enjoyed dinner at the Golden Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Thorndyke spent New Year's day with Mrs. Audrey Meadows at her mother's, Mrs. W. Hannah, at Welcome. Murray and Florence Hannah were with them also.
