However, the road to victory was not withoùt hardship. Game one against Campbellford found the Toros flat, off their game plan and served as a pivot, directing the team into the 'B' series with a 6-0 loss. Game two against Kitchener was a different matter. Humiliated by their rare defeat, Toros stormed onto the ice, pumped up with adrenalin and ready for revenge. Tim Powers, playing a solid game, counting for four goals and one assist, opened the scoring at 9:44 assisted by John Duczmalewski and Dan Szuch. A few minutes later Kitchener responded to tie the game momentarily but the boys wouldn't have it! Brooke Clemens (Jeremy Laird), and Greg Portelance (Dan Szuch, Tim Powers) retaliated to end the period 3 - 1. Toros struck twice more in the second for good measure as they distanced themselves from Kitchener and prepared for the finals: Tim Powers (John Duczmalewski); Tim Powers (unassisted). Tim Powers (Paul Crago) stung the goalie once again in the third to end the game 6 - 4 for Bowmanville. The third and final game against Peterborough was a cliff-hanger as two determined teams hit the ice prepared to do battle. From the moment the puck was ceremoniously dropped by the Mayor of Brighton the action built steadily and the arena became supercharged with emotion. The first three shifts hinted that Toros were a force to be reckoned with as the Chris Ewles - Jeremy Laird - Brooke Clemens line quickly dumped the puck into Peterborough territory. Relieved by the Tim Partridge - Scott MacKinnon - Steve McCullough line the force continued against Peterborough and early signs of Peterborough weakness were becoming evident. Suddenly on a line change, Greg Portelance - Tim Powers - John Duczmalewski stormed onto the ice with fresh legs, took over the assault and at 7:44 John Duczmalewski found the mark assisted by Tim Powers. The game pattern had been set. As wave after wave of Toro offense hemmed in the Peterborough chargers the blue line was captured by Paul Crago - Sean Dalton - Jim Pithie and Dan Szuch who were outstanding in their relentless attack. Meanwhile, back at the Toro goal, Warren Wright twisted and gyrated, knocking pucks to the boards to save the ranch many times. Fans were treated to this fast-paced, tightly played for three finger-biting periods until the final buzzer broke the tension and the Peterborough chances as Toros hung on to take the championship 1-0. Congratulations to Jeremy Laird for winning the M.V.P. award and to the whole team for playing the game the way it is supposed to be played! Earlier this week in league play the Toros defeated Orono by a score of 8 -1.
