i 16 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, March 4,1987 In Editor's Mail To whom it may concern, My family and myself have just recently moved to the Courticearea. On Thursday of last week my children and myself were driving by Station No. 4 Fire, Station and noticed that one of the trucks was outside so we decided to stop in and get a tour. A polite gentleman was inside cleaning one of the trucks and without question showed my children and myself through the station and the trucks. When I asked him where the other firemen were he informed me that they are not full time and that it was an (unmanned) station. Where does all the taxpayer's taxpayer's money go? I know they are spending millions on a new town hall or should I say renovating it. I also understand that there are full time firefighters in Bowmanville. I think it is time that the people of Courtice which will soon match the population Of Bowmanville get the same respect. I'm sure that the tax dollars would be more wisely spent on personal protection rather than office space for everyone in Bowmanville. (Wake up, this is 1987.) (Concerned citizen from Courtice) I "BONELESS", OUTSIDE CUT Round Roasts round-up CUT FROM CANADA GRADE "A" BEEF % I-- "BONELESS" FULL OR OUTSIDE CUT ^ Hound _ 6.15/k 8 % Steaks W 2.79 b BRHL Mothers' Report Dear Sir, During the past year, the BRHL Mothers' Association has held two successful dances and a beef draw to raise money to purchase trophies for all the players and coaches in all divisions as well as thirty-five first aid kits for the teams. The attendance at the monthly meetings has been very poor. Hopefully, more interest will be shown on March 11 Election night. Support is needed to keep this organization running. Your support benefits your child. Without this organization dances, trophies and banquets may become a thing of the past. The main executive has been in office for three years and will be resigning at the end of this term. In conclusion we wish to extend sincere thanks to the parents and merchants who have supported us this past year. March 11, 8:00 p.m. courtroom 2 is election night. All parents are welcome. Councillor Marie Hubbard, Chairman, Hydro Liaison Committee, Town of Newcastle, 40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville, Ontario L1C 3A6 Dear Councillor Hubbard : At its regular February meeting, the Town of Newcastle Public Library Board received a letter from the Town's Deputy Clerk advising of the Hydro Liaison Committee's final recommendation on Hydro Impact funds for improvements to the Library system. Your Committee's recommendation has resulted in an agreement which provides for a total of $86,600.00 for books and book shelving over 1987 and 1988. The Library Board is very pleased by the agreement and I am writing to express their appreciation. These funds will give the Library's book collections a much-needed boost of new materials: Many of those in the construction workforce at Darlington have become library users while living in the Town; members of both the construction and operations workforces and their families who have moved permanently to the Town have also become library users. These people along with all the other users of the Library will benefit from better service because of the Hydro Liaison Committee's recommendation. recommendation. The Library Board thanks you on their behalf, behalf. As the most appropriate way of celebrating this special funding, the Library Board will continue to promote public library services. We encourage every citizen of the Town to have an up-to-date public library card and to givq themselves the privilege and the pleasure of using it at any of the Library's three branches. Yours sincerely, Jennifer Walhout, Board Chairman Better Breathing There is still time to register for the Lung Association's Better Breathing Course, scheduled to begin on Tuesday, March 10th, at the Oshawa General Hospital. This free program, offered to adults with emphysema, chronic bronchitis or severe asthma, will run for seven twicc-wcckly sessions. Self- help techniques will be taught to improve the quality of your daily lives, with instruction in correct breathing, controlled coughing and tolerance exercises. These arc under the direction of qualified staff. Medical professionals will be on hand throughout the Course to answer questions on medication, diet and overall management of lung disease.
