The Fenton family, of Bowmanville, arc leaving on June 19 for at least a two year stay in Zimbabwe, Africa. Africa. Norman Fenton, a teacher at Durham College in the apprenticeship programs, programs, has received a two year leave of absence to work with the Canadian International International Development Agency (CIDA). Mr. Fenton will be involved involved with the Zimbabwe Technological Vocational Project, a joint CIDA and Ontario International Corporation Corporation (OIC) project, which will be working to help the community colleges colleges become operational. Specifically, Mr. Fenton will be a Manpower Development Development Officer, setting up the exam standards for the different trades. "There are a lot of capable capable people already over there," says Mr. Fenton. "We are just going to complement complement the system," he says. When he says we, he means his wife, Pamela, and their four children, Mark, Andrea, Sarah, and Colin. The Fentons spent a week in Ottawa for training about the culture they arc preparing preparing to experience. Training involved learing about everything everything from how to accept gifts, to how to fly flags. They learned to accept gifts with two hands, never the left, and to fly the host country's country's flag above the Canadian Canadian flag. While all are anticipating the move, there will be changes to make. Mark, 17, will be taking Canadian correspondence courses during the two year stay. Fourteen-year-old Andrea will be doing half correspondence correspondence and half local schooling. The two younger children, Sarah,8 and Colin 6, though a little unsure about the situation, are expected expected to adjust very well, according to Mrs. Fenton.
