The trampoline troupe from Toronto gave a demonstration demonstration of the do's and don'ls and the right way to have fun on a trampoline, at Courtice Secondary School on June 2. The members of the troupe, Durango Coy, coach and manager; Dan Normand; Normand; and visiting performer, performer, Frank Naylia, gave the audience just what they came to see. There were plenty of flips, turns, somersaults, somersaults, improvised bantering bantering between the players, and the odd rest on the ce il Hi g. Frank Naylia, a former 14-year member of the "Tramp Champs" left the troupe two years ago to form his own group, "Air Fantasy". Fantasy". He describes his group as aerial ballet, with some dancing, and he has a chance to choreograph his own shows. Frank was the 1975 Canadian Canadian Trampoline Champ, and in 1980 he broke two world records.,,,' While lié le ft'the "Tramps' Champs" on good terms, he credits'Coach Durango Coy with helping him become interested in trampolining 15 years ago. "Durango has a special quality of performing, he likes to have fun and allows us to enjoy ourselves," said Frank. He also credits Durango as the founder of the type of show performed at Courtice last week. "If you see a similiar [ Vincent Massey News ] By Sarah Oke The grade four's went on a trip to Canton Pioneer School. When they got back I interviewed two students, Deanne Desrocher 'and Kyle Shacklelon. This is what they said. Deanne Desrocher -- "The activity I liked best was the math lesson. We did adding and subtracting. It was just like a normal school day except it was in the pioneer day so we used a slate. The school was old, there weren't too many desks," said Deanne. Deanne also liked the three legged race, her partner was Bryar Jones. Kyle Shacklelon -- "The activity I liked best was when we learned how to use a quill pen. A quill pen is a feather with a sharp end that you put in ink to write. Kitchen, McCallum & Porter CERTIFIED GENERAL ACCOUNTANTS JOHN G. MANUEL, CGA DONALD K. "Yes I would like to because because it would be fun," said Deanne. "No, I wouldn't like to because because there would be no TV's,' said Kyle. The students and Mrs. Landry and Mrs. Strong dressed up like pioneers. They used slates, quill pens and looked at some old textbooks. There were many items around the room from that time, such as a scrub board and a paddle paddle (for removing bread from the oven). By Kim McMaster On Thursday, May 21, Scan Brown, Kim McMaster and Mrs. Avery went to the Patrol Jamboree in Ottawa. We stayed three days at the Carleton University. There were 64 patrollers there from Durham Region. There were also patrollers from all over Canada. While in Ottawa, we saw the Governor General giving giving a lifesaving award to two patrollers, we toured the Museum of Science and Technology, we went on a tour of the Parliament Buildings and we went for lunch at the Civic Centre. We were supposed to see the RCMP musical ride and the Sky Hawks Parachute Team but we missed it because because of bad weather. All of the patrollers were supposed supposed to be in a parade on Saturday but it was cancelled cancelled because of rain. In our spare time we went shopping, swimming, had dances at night or were busy trading pins. I would like to thank the Durham Regional Police for organizing the trip. Also thanks to the officers and chaperones who went with us. I think everyone had a fun time. J sure did! trampoline show, you can bet that it is a spin-off from Durango," said Frank. Durango, a self-proclaimed self-proclaimed actor has plenty of artistic freedom when creating a show. "It gives me a chance to write my own material," said Durango. While Durango believes in trying new things, you can rest assured that if something doesn't work, it will either be improved upon or discarded. The other member of the troupe, Dan Normand, is a fairly new member to the group but not to the art of trampolining. Dan, a seven- year veteran to trampolining, trampolining, is also a champion in his own right, having won a synchronized title in recent years. While there are only two members to the group right now, the possibility of hiring hiring a female Ira m poli nisi is never far from mind. At the moment the duo is quite happy, but they are keeping their eyes open. The "Tramp Champs" road show takes them lo many different places, including including fairs, exhibitions, and Christmas shows. They have become quite adept at packing up and moving on very quickly. Their business card says "Trampoline Theatre by Polished Professionals". It does not lie. Their improvised improvised entertainment, mixed with some thrilling routines, gives the audience audience a chance lo see how that big rubberized mat was really intended to be used.
