On Sunday, June 7, the Cowan Pontiac, L & L Tool Junior Orioles travelled to Kingston and lost both ends of the double header by the scores of 5 - 4 and 5 - 4. The Orioles were winning the first game 4 - 1 into the final inning when Kingston erupted for five runs as the Kingston umpires made a catcher's interference call which was definitely not the right decision and this batter would have been the third out, giving Bowmanville a 4 - 2 victory. Chris Michelson started on the mound for the Orioles and pitched awesome, baseball, striking out 13 batters and only allowing three hits. At one point in the game Michelson struck out seven batters in a row, earning him the defensive star of the game. Collecting hits for the Orioles were Troy Foster, Brad Bamsey, ' Chris Michelson, John Mutton, Kevin Smith, Dan Annis and Steve Coverly. Co-winners of the offensive star of the game were Steve Coverly and Brad Bamsey collecting each a single and a double. The second game was much the same story as the umpires had it in for Bowmanville again. Bowmanville took a 4 - 2 lead into the last inning when with two out the Kingston umpires failed to call three very apparent third strikes and one caught stealing. This terrible attempt at umpiring enabled Kingston to score three runs for the victory. Troy Foster started on the mound for the Orioles allowing allowing only five hits and striking out seven batters. Troy received the defensive star of the game as he had to compensate for the narrowminded narrowminded umpires. Honorable mention goes to Phil Bird who once again proved that he is the best defensive third base- man in the league. Collecting hits for the Orioles were Dan Annis, Troy Foster, Brad Bamsey, Chris Michelson, John Mutton, Scott Veals, Phil Bird and Steve Coverly. The offensive star of the game was Troy Foster who hit a long home run into left field and a single. Following the game Oriole head coach Doug Ritchie said to the press "In my eyes we won both of these games and I will not step foot in this ball park again until the O.B.A. does something about these umpires. This is the worst umpired game that I have ever seen." The Orioles now have a layoff layoff until Sunday, June 21 when ' they will be home at 1:00. For more information on the Orioles be sure to check their new bill board downtown.
