"Called to respond" was the theme of the 1st National National Conference and Celebration Celebration of the U.C.W., held July 18-21 in Waterloo University, University, Waterloo. Seven hundred hundred and eighteen delegates from B.C., Yukon, N.W.T. through to Newfoundland were in attendance, and two delegates over 90 years of age and many young women women to add enthusiasm to the conference. On Monday evening there was a very large banquet for well over 900 delegates and visitors. There were 82 delegates from our own Bay of Quinte Conference. Very excellent excellent speakers included Rev. Lois Wilson and our present U. Church Moderator Moderator Anne Squire. A highlight of the entire presentation was the very inspiring Communion Service, Service, served to groups of eight ladies. With excellent accommodations, meals, etc., this proved to be a very thrilling experience for all in attendance. Those representing representing Orono United Church Women, Mrs. Thelma Thelma Vagg and Mrs. Leila Werry. Mrs. Gordon (Eunice) Smith, Colborne was a Saturday Saturday afternoon and evening evening visitor with her sister, Mrs. Agnes Woodyard, while her husband attended the Gladiolus picnic in the park. Mrs. Murray Porter, Florida, Florida, U.S.A., recently visited her aunt, Mrs. Hazel Staple- ton, and also Mrs. Porter's daughter, Mrs. Sandra Campbell and little girl Becky, from Oshawa. The Challice's attended the District #4 flower show at Campbellford, Saturday, July 18, and witnessed an excellent show. An average attendance both of junior and senior members gathered about 6 o'clock for a delicious pot- luck supper which was very much enjoyed by everyone. When all were finished eating and the remainder of food was pul away, the sports committee Susan and Heinz Ncllen conducted conducted some surprising and humorous contests with appropriate appropriate prizes. Everyone then enjoyed a slice or two of watermelon. All too soon a most enjoyable enjoyable picnic was over. Students Students in this class participated in a project which entailed the research and development of a plan for public use of the Bowmanville Creek valley land south of Highway Two.
