Special prizes Ruby Smith, Marion Artym, Ann Park, Gladys Potts. i NEWCASTLE MULTICAKE AND MEMORIAL HOSPITAL HOSPITAL -- In-patients have been swimming twice a month every Friday throughout the summer but now some volunteers volunteers are needed to keep the program going. Apparently. Apparently. the swimming took place with the help of teen volunteers during the summer. New helpers are urgently urgently needed if this is to continue in the winter. The program has been very enjoyable to the patients and all concerned, so it would he a pity to see the swimming discontinued. LOIS BALL -- The third annual mixed lob ball tournament tournament took place at Memorial Park during the weekend, with proceeds going towards the new liownianville Arena. Last Thursday evening the Town of Newcastle took the opportunity to honor those firefighters who have accumulated over 20 years of dedicated service. Councillor Ann Cowman presided over the evening. Town councillors, Sam Curealz M.P.P. and Hon. Allan Lawrence M.P. were all in attendance showing their support for the 10 men receiving the Exemplary Service Medal. Born in Newboro, and educated in Portland, she was the daughter of Annie Ethel Caird and George Herbert Simpson. She was married January 23, 1943 to Nelson Leslie Thompson. A resident at 432 Sunset Blvd., Newcastle, for eight years, she had resided previously in St. Eustache, P.Q. 12 years, Bowmanville 10 years and Beaverton 10 years. She was a member of the .United Church. Surviving are her husband, daughters Mrs. J.B. Munro (Linda), Mrs. G. Illaszewicz (Brenda), and a son Ronald Thompson.' She was predeceased by Terry Leslie Thompson. The Reverend Frank Lockhart officiated at the funeral services held at the Northcutt Elliott Fpneral Home on Tuesday. The organist was Mrs. Arline Ayre.
