Bowmanville, September 9. 1987 7 Yelverton (intended lor last week) On Wed. evening, Corrie Malcolm hosted a baby shower for our newest neighbour. Lacey Deanna Stinson, daughter of Nancy and Dale Stinson and Lacey was the recipient of a number number of attractive baby outfits outfits and accessories. Those present were next door neighbours plus members of our own family -- Mitzi and Mona from Ajax and Jane, Marti and Dionne from Omcmcc. The guest of honor during the evening found the whole evening a bore, yawned once or twice and went back to sleep. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Stinson and Lacey enjoyed a day this week at the Metro Zoo. The Lob ball team from Pontypool sponsored by Stinson farms havelostonly two games all season -- one in regular play and one in tournament play and each by only one run. This leaves them in top place for the season in their league. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Moran and family aller spending a couple of months in our community, have returned to Edmonton this past week. Darlene was able to attend a birthday party forherdad, Murray Malcolm, before take off. On Fri. night the Malcolm clan at Yelverton used a belated belated birthday party for Murray as an excuse to attend attend the musicale the (Un)Sophisticated Ladies at the Limelight based on the musical works of the late Duke Ellington. This was an excellent show of singing and dancing and we certainly would not advocate advocate anyone taking their children to see it if they wished to keep them "down on the farm" thereafter. Those attending were Murray and Ann, Eileen and Howard, Corrie and Harvey. We also were hosted to a social hour or two or three at Candy Malcolm's Malcolm's apartment. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Malcolm Malcolm picked up Eileen's Aunt Betty Whittaker of Hamilton this week and took her with them for a day at the C.N.E -- quite an ambitious ambitious project for the fine octogenarian lady -- Aunt Betty, not Eileen. Blackstock Fair this year was blessed with fine weather weather after being in the bad books with that fickle lady the past couple of years -- the weather lady, of course. Based on the shortage of parking spaces, the attendance attendance must have been excellent. excellent. The large varietyiiof events taking place must have provided at least some interest for almost everyone. At the horseshoe pitching contest it was a pleasure to watch the experts at play. It was interesting to note that old pro, Roy McLaughlin is currently observing his 50th anniversary since competing competing in the world horseshoe pitching competition in New York city 50 years ago. The way he was tossing ringers, ringers, he hasn't lost too much of his skill. Speaking of anniversaries, anniversaries, we are reminded that this week marks our "paper" anniversary as we start another year as correspondent correspondent for the Bowmanville Bowmanville Statesman. Way back on September 9, 1954, we wrote our first news column for the Yelverton community. community. By speedy computations, we assume we have just completed 33 years in that capacity. Still on the topic of An-; niversaries, Yelverton*. United Church will be observing observing its 125th anniversary anniversary on Sunday, September 20, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gerald Hofstetter of Guelph as guest speaker. Following the service, refreshments will be provided in the church hall. Welcome visitors at Mal- conia this week end were Corrie's sister, Gertrude and hubby Roy Werry of Sudbury, now working in Hamilton. §11 : • 77 , , m x , . ■ H - • v v •V ■' - ' ■' ■ ■ -'I 61 . ; ; ■ , V ■ , ; : ■ . .
