At the games, Mrs. Lewko won the U. N. 0. prize; for euchre, Jack Barkwell, Bessy Davis; and Hazel Bristow. Church services were held at Mr. and Mrs. M. Bickle's homo, Canton; the last outdoor service for this summer. Mr. Kellogg had the announcements. Canton ladies provided thd choir and Mr. Bickle playedhis organ. organ. He spoke on Peter's first letter to the Jews. The offering offering was taken up by Canton stewards. Coffee and bread were served by the Canton ladies. Next Sunday our service service will be at the church at 9 a.m. as usual. Mrs. Vera Peacock came home from the hospital on Friday. Jim Gardiner is home again. Mrs. Nancy Sevenhuy- sen got home Monday after her gall bladder operation the week before. She is progressing nicely. Mr. andMrs. R. Russell, Belleville, is at Mr. and Mrs. E Fowler s for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. C. Mercer called on Mrs. Glenda Crombie, Bowmanville, while out driving on Sunday. Sunday. Mrs. Mary Trew, Mrs. Irene Beatty and Jamie Burton spent a few days with Mrs. Doris Gunby and Andrew, Oakville, last week, and came home on Saturday Saturday evening. MORE SPORTALK TERRY FOX RUN -- The annual Terry Fox Run will be held on Sunday, September 13, at Memorial Park, Bowmanville. The starting time is 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The run is 10 kilometres around the periphery of Bowmanville. This 7th annual event is to raise money for cancer research. Those interested in participating may pick up pledge sheets at Beaver Lumber and McGregor IDA Drugs. Join the fun or just come out and show your support for this worthwhile cause. YWCA WEEKEND GET-AWAYS -- The YWCA is offering offering two weekend get-aways described as being "well within the average woman's budget". There's a fall canoeing and tripping skills instructional weekend September 11 to 13 and the Fall Weekend October 2 to 4. The canoe instruction is self-explanatory. self-explanatory. And the Fall Weekend consists of an informal program of hiking, canoeing, or simply relaxing by the fire. Accommodation for both weekends is electrically electrically heated cabins with bunk beds. Soccer Results Semi-final action concluded last week in the Darlington Soccer League. The Flying Dutchmen's season came to an end having upset first Orono and then Courtice before before being eliminated by first place Solina in three close matches. In the other series, Hampton Hampton and Tyrone, two well matched clubs faced each other. Although Hampton finished finished in a first place tie in points with Solina, they ended ended up in second place because because of their record against Solina during the season. After After four close and exciting games in which only one goal was the difference and one gome having ended in a draw, Tyrone eliminated their Hampton opponents. On Wednesday night, Solina Solina hosted Tyrone for the first game of the 1987 Cup Final. For the post three years these clubs have battled it out for the league championship with Tyrone reigning for the past two years. In, this opening match Solina had little trouble as they handed Tyrone a 3-0 loss, Tyrone showing they had not yet recovered'from their tough series with Hampton. This six point series will be on exciting match up. Solina has a long history of success in this championship round, and depends on a nucleus of veteran players, whereas the Tyrone team depend on youth and one touch ball, resulting resulting in contrasting styles.
