However, because the area is already rezoned the development will go ahead and the walkway issue has been referred to Terry Edwards, Edwards, Director of Planning, Planning, for a report. Earlier this year, an application application was made to amend the Newcastle Official Official Plan to permit a parking parking lot behind the proposed commercial development between Lambert and George Streets in Bowman- ville. A petition from 85 residents, residents, most of whom live south of the Bowmanvillc Mall, objected to the amendment due to the increased increased safety risks with additional entrances onto Church Street, where Vincent Vincent Massey Public School is located. At the council meeting on Monday, September 14, a motion was made to deny an amendment for the creation . of the parking lot. Even though council de nied the re-zoning of the land to allow a rear parking lot, the development which will front on King St. East may still go ahead because the area is already zoned general commercial. The project consists of a three- storey commercial/residential commercial/residential building. The development worries many of the parents who have been following the issue to date. The property is owned by Northtown Homes, and such a walkway could be incorporated incorporated into future development, development, according to a report from the town's planning planning department. The Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education Education would also like to see a walkway established. Presently Presently there arc no sidewalks between King Street and Church Street on either St; George St. or Lambert Lambert St. The principal of Vincent Massey Public School requires requires all students to use Lambert Street and a crosswalk crosswalk that is provided to cross Church Street at Lambert Lambert Street.
