That amount represents the cost charged by Hydro for municipal utility customers. Rate increases to individual home owners will vary, according to local costs. In announcing the increase, Ontario Hydro noted that an average residential electrical bill for 1,000 kilowatt hours will rise about $2.50 per month. SENIORS MEET -- The Bowmanville Senior Citizens' Club will meet at the Lions Centre on Tuesday, November 10th at 7:30 p.m. for an evening of cards. CHRISTMAS SEAL CAMPAIGN -- The 1987 Christmas Seal Campaign began with a bang last week. The Durham Region Lung Association Association launched its drive for $140,000 with a reception reception at the McLaughlin Armoury on October 28. Christmas Seal Chairman Lorna Braid officially officially opened the campaign by detonating several several 76 mm. triple exploding rocket fireworks in a blast that was heard around the city. HOW TO QUIT SMOKING -- The CBC, with support from the Canadian Cancer Society, will be airing a step-by-step, day-by-day smoking smoking cessation course commencing November 16. This course is offered in association with the 11:30 p.m. national news and consists of 26 three : minute episodes based on the Cancer Society's booklet entitled "How To Be A Happy Ex-Smoker". The booklet is available through your local unit by calling 623-4326. Anyone seriously considering quitting smoking is encouraged encouraged to request this booklet since it is a guide for the smoker as he or she follows the cessation course. WOOD BLOCK PRINTING -- This Saturday, you can come out and see a demonstration of this unique art form at the Clarke Township Museum and Archives. You can even try printing printing yourself. Hours are from two p.m. to five p.m. November 7 and 8 as well as November 28 and 29. While you're there, you may be interested interested in the museum's latest exhibition entitled entitled "On the Hoof'. This is all about horse hardware and harness making. It even includes includes a side saddle and leather tools. Toastmasters Set Date for Charter Night The Chairman. TM Walter Piersma, opened last week's meeting with a toast to the future of the Bowmanville Toastmasters Club. Bow- manville Toastmasters are looking forward to their Charter Night which has been set for December 1st, 1987. This is a very important important event for our club and everyone is filled with enthusiasm. enthusiasm. The Chairman introduced introduced the Toastmaster for the Evening, TM Helen Bry- den; the General Evaluator, TM Joe Christl, and the Table Topic Master, TM Marilyn Dow, who chose the timely topic of Hallowe'en for the one-minute impromptu impromptu speeches. TM Bry- den's story of "Trick or Treat" won the Best Table Topics Trophy. TM Tricia Eyman and TM Walter Piersma Piersma were the speakers. The Best Speaker Trophy was awarded to TM Eyman. TM Irene Konzelmann and TM Hugh Laing evaluated the speeches. Bowmanville Toastmasters meet every Tuesday at the Lions Club at 7:30 p.m. Eve-, ryone is welcome. The money was raised during United Way Week at the school. A dance, an air band competition, and jello eating contest were all part of the week's events.
