As this is being written, there's no firm indication whether the game will be at the Bowmanville Bowmanville Arena or the Darlington Arena. We hope to have further information elsewhere in the paper as the status of the Bowmanville arena's chiller repairs becomes becomes known. Whatever the location, Cobourg will be facing off against Bowmanville at 7:30 p.m. On Wednesday, October 28, the Bun King Pee Wees hosted the Oshawa Dines' Club and lost 4-2. This game, however, showed quite an improvement in the overall play of the Toros. The hustle and desire were certainly apparent and but for the good goaltending goaltending of Dines' John Rodinski, the Toros could. have built an early lead on some early scoring chances by Dykstra, Real and De- Smedt. Ryan Stewart had a goal and an assist while Chad Armstrong had two assists. Terry Vanlonden had the final Toro goal. The Bun Kings were kings in the Pickering Arena one week later as they bombed the village team by an 8-2 score. David Real set the tone for this one as his aggressive aggressive play started the opponents opponents running at the Toros to the point they forgot about hockey. The Baby Bulls really shone in the passing and smart play departments. IOOF Peewee Selects Win Two LOSSA BASKETBALL ACTION -- The 1987-88 LOSSA basketball schedule has been announced and the following following are some of the upcoming games for the Bowmanville Bowmanville High School squad. On November 30, it will be Roberts at Bowmanville High School. December 7, Bowmanville will play at Anderson and on December 9, it will be Bowmanville at Donevan. Then, on December December 15 Uxbridge will be playing at Bowmanville. There will be an exhibition game Thursday, November 26 featuring with BHS at Henry Street. The I.O.O.F. PeeWee Selects opened their season with two wins on November 14 and 15. On Saturday, November 14, they downed Cedaridge 6-0. Goal scorers were Marty Burgess, Bruce Bumstead, Greg Cook (2), Jason Wichman and Jeff Johnston. Players picking up assists were Ryan Becker, Mark Ferguson, Marty Burgess, Bruce Bumstead, Wayde Putnam and Jeremy Tymosnik (2) with the shutout going to goaltender Sarah Couch. On Sunday they met Kingsview and skated away with a 14-0 win. It was a game that showed just how well this team can move the puck around. Carter's came out on top over Bonded Paving 5-0. This was undoubtedly the best game of the season for Carter's. Everyone came up with a super effort. The game was a tight, close checking affair which was scoreless until early in the second period when Paul Chisholm drilled in a high, hard wrist shot from the point after taking a pass from Ken Cornish and Shawn Baumhauer. McGregor tied the game when the officials failed to notice that McGregor had too many men on the ice. Before the second period was over, Nichols had increased increased their lead to 3-1 on goals by Dave Aldridge from Gilbert Holder and Mike Colbourne from Chris Adams and Murray Char- land. Peewee Girls Selects Play Peterborough Peterborough was in town on Saturday for the season opening game for the girls' pee wee select hockey team. Peterborough dominated the first half of the game, however, Tina Pilling was outstanding in the net, allowing allowing only one goal in the first period. Peterborough also received received two penalties in the period, however they were able to hold off the United Counties power play on both occasions. Leeann Somerscales was able to find the mark in the third, blowing one past the Peterborough goalie. The girls kept the pace up throughout the third period, and with 32 seconds remaining in the game, Leeann was to net her second second goal of the day, picking up a pass from Suzanne Brooks and sliding it past the goalie to give the team a tied game. "Bam Bam" DeSmedt was also great at penalty killing and contributed two assists. Other marksmen were Joel Crombie with one goal and one assist, the ever-improving ever-improving Terry VanLonden with two goals, Mark Brec- kenridge and "Mighty Mite" Dykstra, two assists each. Jason Crosbie and Tyler Stokes had one assist each. "Gunner" Szabo, slowed by the flu bug, still managed to bag a pair of goals. The defence defence were most improved, helping the steady goal- tending of "Paul the Wall" Zwicker and "Caboose" Doyle. On Saturday, November 7, Bun King played Oshawa Canadiens and once again came up strong, winning8-2. Hustle, desire and good passing gave the Toros an early 2-0 lead and they never looked back although Oshawa made it close 4-3 early in the third. The baker kids then went to work, scoring four unanswered goals. Point-getters were: Dave Szabo, two goals; Chad Armstrong with two goals and one assist; "Rocky" Ryan Stewart and Rich Bateman one goal and one assist each. Mark Brecken- ridge, one assist. Joel Crombie was a rock on defence and picked up a goal and two assists for a fine day's work. Tyler Stokes played his best hockey hockey of the year thus far. BY SCOTT REAY The Goodyear Eagles beat Trenton Golden Hawks, for the fourth straight time, Friday, November 13 at Trenton arena. George Pithie scored the first goal of the night for Bowmanville only 20 seconds seconds into the game. Less than five minutes later, Jeff Dawson released a powerful powerful slap-shot hitting the Trento goalie in the groin. The Trenton goalie could not continue the game. Trenton tied it up when Dave Smith failed to clear the puck and a breaking Trenton player intercepted it, catching Smith out of his net. Troy Foster, returning after a long suspension, scored the go ahead goal when he was set up from the opposite side by Brian Heard. Trenton scored one . more to leave the game tied at the end of one. Mid second second period from behind the net, Troy Foster set up George Pithie for his second second goal. With less than a minute left in the period, Steve Flintoff and Mark Hickey both put the puck between the Trenton goalie's legs. In the third period, the Eagles broke loose, scoring seven more goals. First by Jeff Dawson then Pierre St. Amand with a solid slap shot into the top corner of the glove hand side. Steve Terry put one in with some hard digging in front of the net. Mike Gallant and Murray Murray Henderson scored the next two. Troy Foster scored his second with a low snap to the short side. Brad Cruess finished it off by picking the top glove hand corner. Brilliant hockey game Sunday night, November 15, at the packed Hampton arena when Bowmanville Bowmanville Eagles hosted the league leaders, Lakefield Chiefs. Dave Smith stole the show with an excellent performance. performance. The Eagles put down the previously undefeated undefeated Lakefield Chiefs 5-1. Brad Cruess scored Bow- manvillc's first goal in this hard checking, back and forth hockey game. Jeff Dawson then scored to give the Eagles a two point advantage. advantage. Early in the second period, Brad Cruess scored his second goal. Less than a minute later Chris Dreossi scored to give Bowmanville a comfortable lead. Steve Terry was awarded a penalty penalty shot when he was tripped tripped on a breakaway, but was unable to take advantage advantage of this. The game went with no goals for over 30 minutes of play, until the Chiefs stole Dave Smith's shut out with 8 minutes left in the game. Shortly after that, Shawn Rekker tucked one past the goalie but a Lakefield player swooped it out of the net before the referee saw it. There was no goal judge since the goal light was not working. Shawn Rekkerwas kicked out of the game due to his argument over the point. The controversy stirred stirred up a couple fans with-- different opinions but local police in the crowd stepped in to assure no problems would develop. Troy Foster scored the last Bowmanville Bowmanville goal to finalize their well earned victory. Monday night, November 16 in Cobourg, the Eagles blew away the Cougars 10-3. Jeff Dawson forced one in, digging in front of the net, to start Bowmanville Bowmanville off. Shortly after that, Willy McGarvey flipped flipped a back hand into the short side. On a double power play Cobourg put one in the net but it didn't count because of interfering with Scott Webster. Chris Dreossi scored Bowman-, ville's third goal. With 20 seconds left in the period, the Cougars brought it out from behind the net and banged it in. Early in the second, Steve Terry scored to start a high scoring period. Half way through the period, Kelly Armstrong drove one in from the point. Seven seconds seconds later, Willy McGarvey faked the goalie and flicked one in. Cobourg managed to get a couple back but that was it. In the last two minutes minutes of the 2nd period Paul Stainton, Brian Heard and Chris Dreossi each scored. Cobourg held Bowmanville to only one goal in the last period, Willy McGarvey's third of the night.
