December 9. 1987 3 Edwardian Christmas Celebration Takes Place at Museum Butler - Roberts Wedding Sharon Dinah Roberts and Charles Scott Butler were united in marriage Saturday, Saturday, October 10, 1987 at 4.30 p.m. in Ebenezer United Church by Reverend David Jones.The organist was Bene Down. The bride's parents are Simon and Carrie Roberts, Oshawa, and the groom's Charles and Jean Butler, Bowmanville. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a traditional traditional wedding gown of white organza designed with a high ruffled neckline with a sheer yoke accented with a cameo motif. Full sleeves featuring appliques of Chantilly Chantilly lace ana a full skirt accented accented with scalloped organza organza with Chantilly lace underlay. A floral headpiece of silk flowers and sprigs of pearls held a fingertip length veil and she carried a cascade cascade of roses, carnations, and fuchsias. The maid of honor was Pam Roberts, sister of the bride and the bridesmaids were Julie Piper, sister of the groom and Debby Ward. The flowergirl was Carrie Roberts, daughter of the bride. Best man was Fred Hodgson and the ushers were Willy Hodgson and Mike Robinson. The reception ws held at Oshawa Legion Hall where the guests were received by the Bride's mother in a silver gray street length dress, and the groom's mother in a burgundy burgundy cocktail length gown with matching jacket and hat. Leaving for a honeymoon at Midland and surrounding areas the bride wore a peach dress, matching jacket and hat. Mr. and Mrs. Butler are now residing in Oshawa. Secondary School a Journalist, and many other great speakers. Many students found the day very educational. A Co- bourg student said. "It is a worth while trip. I enjoyed it very much." At 3:00 the carousels ended, ended, and everyone got back on the bus for the trip home. Christmas" carols were sung on the steps of the Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. The Brownies Brownies and Guides sang 'Jingle, Bells, Away in the Manger, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Joy tothe World, Frostie the Snowman, and- Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer,' Reindeer,' wonderfully! The Beavers Beavers and Scouts sang "Santa Claus is coming to Town and Deck the Halls," quite well. The school choir sang 'Jingle Bells, Silent Night, Away in a Manger. Deck the Halls, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, We Wish You A Merry Christmas and Joy to the World,' lovely. Some of the Scouts handed out delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows. marshmallows. There was a movie for the children called "The Christmas Tree Train." On November 25, 450 Coop Coop students from all over the Northumberland and Newcastle Newcastle area, gathered together together for an educational day in Cobourg and Port Hope. The all day workshop was called, "Working Today for Tomorrow." Thirty Co-op students from Courtice Secondary, boarded the bus at 8:30 a.m. Even though it was snowing, snowing, everyone made it to Cobourg Cobourg for the morning session session of the workshop. Arriving at the Cobourg Lions Centre around 9:3C a.m., all the students were given name tags, a "goody' bag, and were provided with drinks and muffins. The morning was started off by a great play called,' "The Working People's Picture Picture Show." The play was put on by five women who have toured all over Ontario put- tingon this play. The play showed the students students how to handle jobs, find a job you are interested in, how to avoid sexual har- rassment, and show us how to handle different situa tions. Some of the express sions on the play were, "It was great. It was Worth seeing." seeing." After the play was finished, finished, everyone went back on their buses and headed for the Port Hope Legion. At the Legion everyone present was treated to a free lunch. We were served salads, salads, buns, lasagna, roast beef and potatoes. The highlight of our lunch hour was when all the power went out. The lucky people were the ones already sitting down; the unlucky were the ones left standing with their food in the middle of the hall. The few lights that there were came from many peoples' peoples' cigarette lighters. After lunch, at about 1:00, the carousels began. The carousels carousels were the forty-five different career speakers that came in to talk to the Coop Coop students about different occupations. Each student chose three different carousels to attend, each a half an hour. Some of the great displays were, The Canadian Armed Forces, and the O.P.P.
