Newton ville The Newlonville Women's Institute meeting began with out dinner luncheon at the Legion Port Hope when 12 members and 5 gents enjoyed their meal. They returned then to Elizabeth Skelding's for the remainder oi the afternoon. Readings by Madeleine Buckley, Jean O'Neill and Doreen Lake. She alsc conducted a contest won by Jean O'Neill. Christmas cards to shut- ins were signed by the eleven members present. The meeting closed with singing several carols and exchange of gifts. Each one received a candy cane, a gift of the hostess. Lunch of Christmas cake, varieties of cookies.with a cup of tea or coffee, and a sociable time followed. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Henderson visited on Wednesday Mr. All Perrin, a patient in Kingston General Hospital after a heart operation. Mr. Bill Wade of Oshawa returned home from hospital in Toronto on Thursday after tests on his heart. He with wife Margaret and Michael moved on Saturday to their newly constructed house in Port Hope. They presented each patient, with a bag of homemade cookies. Mrs. Fred Henderson visited Mrs. Emma Ruthven, a patient at Port Hope hospital on Friday afternoon. She was at Peterborough hospital and hoped to return home on Saturday with the aid of a walker. Church greeters Sunday morning were Phyllis Peck and Bernice Henderson. The lighting of the 3rd Advent candle "Joy" was presented by the Sunday, school children. They also- presented skits, readings and a dialogue. Collection was taken by them for the White Gift service. The choir sang "His Name Is Wonderful" Communion will be held next Sunday, and a Christmas Eve service will also be held on December 24th. The Sunshine Committee of the U.C.W. of Lena Clysdale and Margaret Elliott were busy last week taking Christmas gifts to the shut-ins and enjoying their visits with them. Crimestoppers Crime Stoppers and the Durham Regional Police are asking for the Public's help in solving an Armed Robbery Robbery which occurred at the Pioneer Gas Bar on Taunton Road East near Wilson Road in Oshawa on September 18th. At about 2:45 in the morning morning a man went to the gas bar window and pulled a handgun on the employee telling him he wanted cash. The victim gave him the money and the suspect ran towards the Canadian Tire Store on the South East corner corner of Wilson Road and Taunton. There he met another another male who had a motorcycle motorcycle and they both took off travelling South on Wilson Wilson Road. Suspect # 1 is described as white, male, 6' in height, medium build, 19 - 25 years, clean shaven with a black moustache, black wavy hair, wearing a navy blue baseball baseball cap, black cloth jacket, blue jeans and white run- . ning shoes. There is no description of the second suspect or the motorcycle. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1000 lor information lending to the arrest of the person responsible for this offence.
