Section Two The Canadian Statesman. Bowmanvillc, December 16. 1987 11 Pontypool UCW Changes Name to Volunteers ay, ber 2nd, the Pontypool U.C.W. had their Christmas meeting at the home of Elaine Grabco. The most important important item of business was to change the group name. The new title for the group is Pontypool Church Volunteers. This opens up the organization to all the residents of Pontypool, regardless regardless of their religion or sex. They will no longer be just a women's group. The majority amount of tne proceeds of all functions will still be donated to the church. On Sunday, December 6th, Reverend Bill Piercy conducted the services of worship at both Pontypool and Bethany, in the absence of Reverend Heather Smith on a study leave at. the Kirkridge retreat center in Pennsylvania. The general general theme of the sermon was on the value of using 'waiting' time constructively. constructively. Then one is more ready for an event when it does come along. Reverend Piercy is now retired but still keeps very busy preaching in different places and enjoys life very much. He was once the minister on this charge. We now have a piano for the sanctuary. This is to be paid for by contributions, not from the regular or renovation fund. Anyone wanting to contribute should put a cheque or cash in an envelope marked "Pontypool Umted Church - - for piano" with your name and / or envelope envelope number for income tax purposes. These can be put on the offering plate or mailed to the treasurer, Stewart Stewart Walker, P.O. Box 255. Pontypool. We look forward to the flexibility the piano will give for music in worship worship and for special events at the church.
