Darlington Wood Srs Goodyear Retirees Enjoy Christmas Banquet Truckers Make it to Semis Outscore Port Hope By Bob Sheridan Art Hester played brilliantly brilliantly in the Bowmanville net this week-end as we successfully successfully defeated Port Hope Legion Legion 7-5 on Friday evening and Ontario Motor Sales 5-4 on Sunday. Gerry Henderson Henderson was the star of the Port Hope game with three goals. Hugh German, playing on a line with Grant Flintoff and Ed Schreyer, led our attack attack on Sunday with two goals that displayed pinpoint pinpoint marksmanship, one in the comer and one in the five hole. Grant and Dave Root both added singles. Ron Clemens who played his usual aggressive game, dug the puck out behind the net and fed the puck to Ron Rushak in the crease. Ron with a brilliant touch of legerdemain, legerdemain, deftly slipped the puck behind the helpless goaltender. This was the winner. Providing Music Wednesday-Saturday The Goodyear Retirees' Club held their annual banquet banquet in the St. John's Hall on Monday, Dec. 7th at 12:00 o'clock. The Martha group catered, and once again did a great job and are to be commended for the meal and service they supplied so efficiently. Seventy members members sat down including the Goodyear Plant Manager, Mr. Stan Hollingsworth, and representatives of management management and union. Prior to the meal, one minute's silence silence was observed for the members who had passed on, and after Rev. Yates asked the blessing, the food started to disappear, age apparently being no deterrent deterrent to appetites. After the meal, Treasurer Norm Allison introduced the head table and asked Charlie Trim to introduce the Goodyear personnel. The lunch took place in the St. John's Church, Bowmanville. The head table table (standing) from left includes: Rev. Langley, honorary member; Charles Trim, manger of industrial industrial relations and industrial engineering; Johnny cheque for St. John's Church for their generosity towards the retirees and Rev. Yates suitably responded. responded. The treasurer also made a presentation on behalf of the retirees to Betty Nichols for her numerous gifts to our group, in the form of cookies for our Monday Monday morning meetings. The Plant Manager also made a presentation of $60 towards the Retirees' Coffee Coffee Fund on behalf of the Goodyear personnel present present at the meeting. After a question period with Stan Hollingsworth a draw i was held for three Goodyear jackets which had been brought down by the Plant Manger and three of our members went home better equipped to stand the rigours of our Canadian winter. Towards the end of the meeting' Our President, Tom Gatchell, presented Norm Allison with a gift from the executive of the club for his never-ending efforts on behalf of the Goodyear Retirees Club. Mark Read scored his first goal of the game at the 14:22 mark of the first period with assist going to Greg Knox. Less than a minute later Mark Read connected again with assist going to Dawd Drum mond and Shawn Wolfe. The third goal from the truckers was scored by Brad Read unassistèd. Mark picked up his 3rd goal in the first period with-assist goin to Chad Veinot. Mark startei the 2nd p he ended the first picking up his fourth goal assisted by Niall O'Donnel. Mark then got his 5 goal unassisted. In the third period Les McCro- ry scored with assist going to Mark Read. Mark got his sixth goal at the end of the third period. On December 6, the Truckers were in the semi finals finals with Woodview their ; opponents. This time Wood- view skated to a 3 to 1 victory. victory. The Truckers could not get on track in this game. Chad Veinot scored the only goal for the Truckers with assist going to Dairen Allin. The boys should be very pleased with their showing.
