Some excellent goaltending by Paul "The Wall" Zwicker and a little luck kept the 1st period scoreless. Bowmanville got their "Buns" rolling in the second period, scoring 3 consecutive goals. The first by Steven "Bam Bam" DeSmedt from Chad "Army" Armstrong and Corey Strand. Then the "SSB Connection" - Szabo - Stores and Bateman - displayed their skills. Scoring the second Toro goal, team captain David "Zamboni" Szabo from Richard "Batman" Bateman and Joel Crombie. They Tylor Stokes (his first of three - hat trick) from Szabo and Jason "Bing" Crosby. Bowmanville outshooting Millbrook 12-8 in the seoend period. In the third, the Visitors came out skating and connected on two quick goals in the first minute and a half. There was no scoring in the third. 12 Dec. 87 League Game - Bowmanville 5 - Port Perry 4 Playing their 3rd game in four nights, the Toros looked a little sluggish to a much surprised/improved Port Hope team. The visiting team took an early 1-0 lead before Bowmanville responded with one of their own - Joel Crombie, on a shot from the point, from Richard Bateman. Port Hope made it 2-1 before the Bun Kings tied it up. Again Joel Crombie's (2nd) shot from the point from Corey Strand. Port Hope scored the only goal in the second for a 3-2 lead. Early in the third, the visitors made it 4-2. Instead of giving up the Bun King team woke-up. Jason Crosby playing right wing in the third period, tipped in Chad Vanderende's shot from the point, also assisted by David Real. Three minutes later, the same line combination scored a picture TIC-TAC-TOE goal - Jeremy Woodcock from Jason Crosby and David Real, to the game at 4-4. Then with 6 seconds to go, David Szabo fired a blistering shot from the top of the circle, from Richard Bateman, for the winning marker. Hard luck player - Sean Brown, when he took a hard shot on the ankle - shake it off Sean, as we know, you are a real competitor. Nichols Motors Beat Oshawa Following what seemed to be weeks of inactivity, Nichols finally hit the ice on December 11 in a game against Northminister of the Oshawa Church League. With four regulars missing, Nichols were able to pick up a mystery guest player to give them two full lines. The Oshawa club was a fast skating group and it took a couple of shifts for Nichols to get underway against them., but when Kris Matheson scored form Murray Charland and Gilbert Gilbert Holder the team moved into high gear. Less than a minute after Kris's goal the mystery guest scored unassisted, unassisted, then on his next shift, set up Billy MacIntyre for Nichols' 3rd goal. In the second period, Ken Cornish opened the scoring by rifling in a shot from the slot following passes from Steve Kay and Kris. The 5th goal was scored by the mystery mystery guest on a snot which the goaltender did not see. Mike Colbourne earned the assist oh this goal Ken also opened the 3rd by scoring a beautiful goal assisted by Gilbert and Kris. Gilbert finished the scoring by driving home a shot f roni the slot after jumping on the puck when the Oshawa team appeared not to want it.
