Bowmanvillc, May 4. 1988 FLASHBACK -- 25 YEARS AGO -- Only six of a large group of Bowmanvillc High School Students completed their lengthy walk from here to Port Perry and back on Sunday. They include: Dave Werry, Grant Wright, Norm Vanstone, Larry Samis, Doug Lane and Gord Burnham. They are fully convinced President Kennedy's physical fitness suggestion of walking 50 miles was "doing it the hard way". FLASHBACK -- 10 YEARS AGO -- Doug McCabe, President of the Bowmanvillc Men's Curling League, presented the President's Trophy to the winners of the league trophy Paul Chant, Bert Syer, Dale Wood and Cam Olesen. MEDIA SLO PITCH LEAGUE -- Some of Durham's radio, television, and cable TV folk are playing ball for food. Not that they need the food, of course. The food collected at the media slo-pitch games will go towards Settlement House's on-going food drive for the needy of the Durham Region. The games take place every Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m., commencing May 5, at Southmeade Park in Oshawa. ORONO TENNIS CLUB -- The new management of the Orono Tennis Club is inviting new members to register between May 3 and 5 at the Orono Town Hall. MOJ ACKS DOWN BUT NOT OUT - Still on the theme of Junior C hockey, we note that the Port Perry Mojacks are down two games in their All-Ontario finals finals against Mooretown Flags. They're playing a best- of-seven series. Upcoming games are Wednesday evening, evening, Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon in Port Perry. The evening games start at 7:30 p.m. while the afternoon game commences at 1:30. Scores against the Mojacks in weekend play were 6-3 and 8-2. TONBA TOURNAMENT -- Early birds will be pleased to learn that there's a lob ball tournament this Saturday and Sunday featuring 16 teams and four divisions. Peewee Selects Selects finished off the season winning the Forsey Signs Peewee Select Tournament by defeating the Belleville Selects 4 to 3 in double overtime. overtime. The I.O.O.F. Peewees closed the Bowmanville Arena Arena property with a Bowmanville Bowmanville team winning the Championship. The I.O.O.F. Peewees played 53 games this year winning 44, tieing 3, and losing losing only 6 games. They competed competed in four tournaments, winning two A Championships and two A finalists. In 53 games the team scored 253 goals and allowed only 73, giving goalie goalie Sarah Couch a 1.45 G.A.A. and 14 shutouts. Marty Burgess was top goal scorer with 77 goals and Ryan Becker was top assist scorer with 54 assists. The entire team of Marc Ferguson, Marty Burgess, Bruce Bumstead, Dan Kooy, Greg Cook, Michael Suess, Jeff Johnston, J.P. Tousig- nant, Wayde Putnam, Brad Hargest, Jason Wichman, Jeff Beckett, Robert McLel- lan, Jeremy Tymoshik, Ryan Becker, and Sarah Couch, should hold their heads high and be very proud of their accomplishments, team play and sportsmanship.
