I -4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 19, 1988 Section Two Yelverton News Malcolm by II. I'he tumult and the shout- ing dies and the 16 day marathon marathon of intercountry competition competition has come to an end - with a gigantic sigh of relief •from most T.V. watchers. ■How many times have we .witnessed a replay of "Big Ben" our steroid champ making his gigantic dash for his Olympic gold only to ■have it snatched away from him later. The next six weeks promise promise to be even more boring as the three top guns of the political parties oil their guns for High Noon on November 21st. We shall no doubt soon he inundated with the usual tirades on free trade, environment environment issues, abolishing ■the Senate, abortion, etc., etc., ad nauseum. -■ The "Blue Jays" have flapped their wings for the last time this season and the •Maple Leafs will soon be .doning their skates for another another exhausting season - for the fans that is. A very pessimistic pessimistic looking future ahead of us, eh! ,,. On Sunday the gathering of our local clan assembled "to honour the Methusala of Malconia family on the anniversary anniversary occasion of his advent. advent. The first week of October October is readily recognized as the prettiest time of the year. Motner-Nature-wise in these parts of Ontario. The splendour splendour of our arboreal landscape landscape currently defies description description with its beauty. The flaming reds of the soft maples, maples, the sumacs and certain hard maples intermingled ,with the softer greens of the poplars and the mellow yellows yellows of the birches paints a landscape no artist could possibly emulate. So, it was only fitting that "Guesss Who" should arrive on this auspicious week of few years back - (quite a few). The local family reaction to this statement is that there are exceptions to every rule"! They really know now to hurt a feller! Oh yes we were the recipient of a number of gifts - some very useful and others of a no-name variety plus the usual collecton of insulting insulting Birthday cards. On Tuesday evening, Ralph and Ruth Malcolm of Don Mills, Howard and Eileen Eileen Malcolm and Come and I enjoyed a sumptuous repast repast and social evening at the Deer-Park Inn at Stouff- ville - another birthday observation observation for Ralph and me. Recently, Murray Malcolm Malcolm and Eileen Lynn enjoyed enjoyed a trip bv car to Sault Ste. Marie and by train to the Agawa Canyon in Algoma. The beauty of the trees at this time of year is sensational sensational we're told. Mr. and Mrs. Clare Robinson Robinson and family moved from their residence east of Yelverton Yelverton to their new home in the Whitby area on September September 30th. Their many friends wish them the best in their new environment. We belatedly welcome Ronald and Ellen Fisher and family to our Yelverton community. community. They have built a lovely new home; a real credit to the area . We trust their sojourn in the vicinity will be a pleasant one. On Thursday a.m. October October 6th, the Yelverton U.C.W. met in the church basement to finalize the plans for our roast beef dinner on Thanksgiving Thanksgiving Monday. The meeting meeting was opened, with the Ode and the roll call was answered answered by 15 members. In the absence of the President the Vice President Laurie Robinson presided over the business session. Linda Pfoh was in charge of the Devotional Devotional and provided a reading reading on Thanksgiving, played a couple of musical numbers and concluded the Devotional Devotional with prayer and the Be- nedicition. The November 3rd meeting is invited to the home of Mrs. Janet Spence- ley in Lindsay, Ontario. The hostesses were Mary Moore and Doris Powan.
