Potluck Supper Ends Horticulture Year By Verna Robinson The Bowmanville and District Horticulture Society ended their year with a sumptuous pot-luck dinner served by unit 4 ladies of the Trinity United Church. They did an excellent job again. President Netten asked Reverend Glover to say Grace. After dinner, President Nettcn welcomed everyone and asked Past President Merl Slutc to thank the ladies who served. We then enjoyed enjoyed singing some Christmas Christmas carols accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Pat Prout. President Nettcn called on our district director to give her greeting. Musical entertainment was provided by Mr. Don Flctcner on violin and Mr. Bud Virtue with his guitarplaying guitarplaying many old favorites which almost had everyone up dancing. For the first two periods it was anybody's anybody's game but then, in the third period, Hutton pulled away to gain a four goal lead and win by a 6-2 margin. 401 Esso tok the lead on a power play goal during the first shift of the game. Later in the first period the Truckers' Truckers' Greg Knox fed Jeff Hughes to create a two on none. Jeff was stopped by the 401 Esso goaltenaer but Greg Knox neatly tucked in the rebound. Midway through the second second period, Hutton took the lead on a goal by Mike Ferguson Ferguson ana assisted by Paul Hollingsworth and Brad Read. With only seconds remaining remaining in the period, Peter Schoep took a pass from Jeff Hughes to notch Hutton's third point. 401 Esso stayed in the game with a goal early in the third period to narrow the Trucker's lead to one. However, two back-to-back goals by Jeff Hughes, assisted assisted by Les McCrory put it away for the Truckers. Theresa Lyle, 18, was injured injured on October 27 when the machine she was operating operating pinned her against a steel beam. Special Day Set Aside for Bowmanville Toastmasters Newcastle Council has proclaimed November 29 as Bowmanville Toastmasters Day in the Town of Newcastle. Newcastle. Council had received the reauest from the Bowmanville Bowmanville club and approved the proclamation at Council's meeting on November 28. The Toastmasters is an international, non-profit organization organization designed to help people develop their communication communication and leadership skills. The Bowmanville Toastmasters Toastmasters celebrated the first anniversary of their charter on November 29,1988.
