BISCUITS 49» GRAPES LARGE ORIGINAL BUNCHES by Chris Clark There is no shortage of creativity at Bowmanville High School. To showcase some of that creativity, students there are working on an incredible display display of original music and dance which they will present in the spring. But this is no ordinary musical. Visual Arts teacher Jane Eccles describes her students this year as "a powerhouse powerhouse group of kids." Given Given the high degree of potential potential she and music teacher Ron Parker saw in their students, students, they decided to em- .bark on a creation and collaboration collaboration with Dance Makers, a professional dance company based in Toronto. Mr. Parker explains that "we started brainstorming at the beginning of the (school) year. What came out of the kids were concerns about everything from garbage to poverty. What evolved was the idea of a metamorphosis oflife." Not just the theme of the project is at such a mature level. The entire undertaking stresses the individual creativity creativity and responsibility of the students. Tney have been working on designing the sets and costumes which they will use. Once a month or so, representatives representatives from Dance Makers spend a day at the school listening and making suggestions but leaving as much of the creative and practical work as possible to the students. Music students are at work composing the music they will perform during the presentation. Mr. Parker is pleased with the ability of his students to compose and then arrange such nigh quality quality music. "Electronic instruments instruments are good working-out instruments for composing," he says, adding that the performance performance will be a mixture of electronic and instrumental instrumental forms. As the spring performance performance date draws closer the actual performers will begin to gear up. Dance Maker dancers will be joined by stu dent dancers, and the music for the gala will be performed performed by students as well. Plans to date call for three areas of performance, each representing a different phase of life. The school's main foyer will be the entrance entrance to life, a gateway into the metamorphosis. The long hallway leading to the auditorium will be a water tunnel, symbolizing and drawing from man's long affinity affinity and relationship with water. Emerging from the water tunnel, one then journeys journeys into the auditorium where the end results of the sojourn are apparent. The work going into the production is impressive for its ingenuity, originality, and sheer volume. Over 50 students students will be working throughout the winter ana into tne spring to produce what properly will oe called a unique look at the human condition. Metro Chairman Issues Order to Stop Testing at Landfill Site The new Metro Chairman has ordered drilling to stop at one of Metro's favored landfill sites in Darlington. Durham Regional Councillors Councillors heard at the December December 21 meeting of Council that Chairman Alan Tonks has halted all work at the N1 site. Durham Regional Chairman, Chairman, Gary Herrema, said that Mr. Tonks has requested a meeting be held with the works and planning committees committees of both Metro and Durham Durham to discuss "matters of mutual concern." One such matter that will be discussed in the meeting is garbage and the N1 site. Mr. Herrema said the meeting will take place in the new year.
