When the buzzer sounded at the end of the 1st period the boys were a bit down and a little flat but you can imagine the deflated feeling when at the 6:12 mark of the second, North Oshawa popped another one to go up 3-0. Then, as previously mentioned, mentioned, the Doys dug down and upped the pace. At the 5:27 mark Peter Schoep went to work and potted the first of his two goals on a blistering slapshot from the top of the slot and then came right back 12 seconds later with a carbon copy of the first goal from the same spot. Both of these goals were solo efforts. This is how the second second period closed out. 401 Esso Earns Win in Grafton On Thursday, December 15th, 401 Esso tripped east for an exhibition game with Grafton. This puts far too much pressure on any player, regardless regardless of his ability or character. Travis Lauglin had the tough job of being that one player to represent Ontario Hydro, In spite of Travis' excellent effort and quick reflexes, Grafton got the goal that allowed them to continue in the tournament, while eliminating Ontario Hydro. In spite of their two loss record, the Hydro players should be congratulated. Parents and spectators were treated to some very exciting hockey that would rival many N.H.L. games. The following weekend, Ontario Hydro took part in the Grafton invitational tournament. tournament. Unfortunately they did not experience the same success in spite of superb effort effort from all players. Their first game against a Port Hope team ended in a loss, with a respectable 3-5 score. However, at one point in the game Hydro found themselves behind 4-0! None-the-lëss, the team never never once showed signs of defeat defeat as they organized an offence offence that included strong forechecking while strengthening strengthening their defense. This resulted resulted in two goals from Travis Travis Laughlin and one from Phil Gushulak. Kevin Martin assisted in Phil's goal. Ontario Hydro clearly showed that they had what was necessary to beat the Port Hope team. Unfortunately Unfortunately the clock ran out and took away that opportunity. The second game of the tournament was played against the Grafton No, 1 atom club. Ontario Hydro jumped out at the start to get the all important first goal. Credit goes to Travis Laughlin, Laughlin, assisted by Jamie Po.well and Jeff Crawford. Minutes later, Grafton tied the game only to see the tie broken by Travis. By the time the second second period had begun, Travis Travis had picked up his third goal on a breakaway. However, illustrating that the games are not over until the last buzzer sounds, Grafton came back with three successive goals. With only eight seconds left and down one goal, Phil Gushulak scored to put Ontario Ontario Hydro into overtime play. Fans for both teams were not impressed with the format of the overtime play used in the tournament.
