The wedding will take place on Saturday, February 11 at Tyrone United Church. Ye Iverton News by H. Malcolm ■ ■ A note of sadness was injected injected into our community's festive spirit this Christmas due to the passing of two individuals individuals with close connection connection to our residents. Maurice Ernest Mantle, known to all as "Moe" who has been a resident of our community for past 30-40 years and who operated the local auto repair business at Yelverton for many years, passed away suddenly on Tir ----- 'hursday December 22 at the Port Perry Memorial Hospital following several months of failing health. Moe had a lung removed about 2 1/2 years ago and his health since that time has not been good. Moe, an active member of our community, was held in high regard by a wide circle of friends. He was a gregarious gregarious character with a fund of stories and possessed a keen sense of humour and a quick wit which made him a popular popular addition to any group either either young or old. The "Mayor of Yelverton" as he was affectionately known will be sadly missed and will leave an empty spot in the hearts of many who knew him intimately as friend and neighbor. Likewise, sympathy is extended extended from our Yelverton community to Doris and Arthur Arthur Rowan of this community community in the passing this week of Doris' brother Orval Jack- son of Oshawa - a former resident of both Brooklin and Little Britain areas. Sympathy Sympathy too to the other members of Doris' family-her sister Helen and brothers and their families as well as Orval's widow, family and grandchildren. grandchildren. • I WifO'l T> •11 Bowman ville Baptist Church Third Concession west of Liberty St. PASTOR: Roger Fellows 9:45 a.m. Sunday School -- All Ages -- 11:00 a.m. Studies in Romans 6:30 p.m. The Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus Tuesday 6:45 p.m. Family Night Nursery Open at all services For further information call 623-3000 or 623-9235 The Salvation Army Bowmanville Citadel 75 Liberty St. S. Wedding to take place in Toronto on the 3rd of June 1989. Hobnobbing with Harvey "Our Brush with the Law"! Every once in a while a little unexpected excitement comes our way to break up our dull daily doldrums. On Thursday a.m. December December 29 following a quiet uneventful night with the exception exception of a coyote chorus permeating our subconscious subconscious during a short practise session - the first we've heard this season, things started to happen. On scrutinizing the horizon, - a matutinal exercise we perform perform daily to get the bloodshot bloodshot orbs in action, our keeper keeper of the zoo draws our attention to the fact there is a strange vehicle parked at the other place, with the barn doors wide open. "The other place" for the uninitiated is about 1/4 of a mile away and consists of a steel covered barn and an implement shed. On further investigation, we discover a 1985 Firebird sitting there quietly semi- immersed in snow which had obviously unsuccessfully unsuccessfully tried to park on the barn floor. Obviously, the gangway gangway was too steep covered with snow as it was. Apparently Apparently the driver and passenger passenger of same had taken off BAHA'I ' FAITH The true seeker should show kindness to animals, animals, how much more unto his fellow-man, to him who is endowed with the power of utterance. A phone call to the local "Cop Shop" eventually elicited elicited the information from the "Lad in Blue" who checked it out - was that the vehicle had been stolen in the Metro area. Eventually a tow-truck picked up the Firebird and departed, leaving us wondering, wondering, where, when, and what actually happened. Those cops are a closemouthed closemouthed bunch and getting even the most rudimentary information from them is like pulling out porcupine quills. Not one word of appreciation appreciation for phoning to tell them of the abandoned vehicle vehicle - in fact, I was advised "if it was in my road I could have it towed away." Perhaps Perhaps it is time they were given given a short course in Public Relations. Sometimes, we think the minions of the Law forget they are "public servants"! servants"! We are disturbed on occasion occasion by the double standards that are inflected on our society. society. The sale of liquor, spirits and ale is one of the largest contributors to the provincial coffers and the promoting of same are made as attractive as possible to increase sales of the various products. Then in juxta position the same government imposes a "Ride*^program that makes one so paranoid of taking a drink that it either leaves you stone sober or looking over your shoulder all night.
