Young Canada Day January 7th Keene 2s 4 Bowmanville 3 The Bell Toros hosted Keene 2 on Saturday, January January 7th in the Young Canada Day tournament. Despite a valiant effort, the-Bell group bowed to their visitors by a score of 4-3. These Bell gals hadn't played since December December 21st, so weren't quite as sharp as they could have been. Joanna Hall put forth a superb effort and earned a hat-trick. Two of Jo's goals were unassisted, but the 3rd was set up by Tracy Bumstead. Bumstead. Tina Millson was also a stand-out between the Bell pipes turning away 25 shots, one of which came from a clear break-away by Keene's Kim Gray. Congratulations to Tina Millson who -was awarded the M.V.P. honours for the Bell team, and to Carolyn O'Toole of Keene who received received the same recognition for the visitors. Honorable mention goes to Bell's Joan-. na Hall and Keene's Kim Gray who notched 3 and 4 points each. Respectively. Young Canada Day On Saturday, January 7 - Toro Jr. Girls hosted Keene at Darlington. Keene came on strong in the first and well into the second giving them a 2-0 lead. Then, near the end of the second, the Toro girls scored one on an excellent pass from the point by Cheryl Ann Cole to Leeann Somer- scales who shot it in. Then within 25 seconds Laura Abrams Abrams made an exceptional play to score an unassisted goal to tie the game. However, during the last two minutes, Keene managed managed to score again, giving them a 3-2 victory. Pee Wees Come Close Young Canada Day saw lots of action on Saturday, January 7. The Canadian Tire Peewee 'A' team played Stouffville in an action filled game. When these two teams get together the end result is either a tie or a win or loss by one goal for us. Brian Campbell opened the scoring in tne second period period assisted by Ryan Robinson Robinson and Collin Taggart. With both teams trying their best to score, StoufiVille tied it up four minutes into the third period. Wayde Putnam wound up five seconds later with a slapshot to put Bowmanville Bowmanville ahead 2-1. Jeff Murphy assisted on Wayde's goal. Stouffville however, came back and scored two powerplay goals to win the game 3-2. On Sunday, Bowmanville Ajax. This proved to be a very exciting game with Ajax opening tne scoring. The play went back and forth for the whole game, ending in a 4-4 tie. The scorers scorers were Collin Taggart (2), Jason Crosby, Brian Campbell. Campbell. Heritage House Toros hosted Port Hope on Jan. 2nd. It was a see-saw battle with both teams having their chances. Port Hope scored at the 6:36 mark of the first period. period. Toros came back to tie the game on a goal by Dwayne Desjardins. First period ended in a 1 - 1 tie. Second period, Toros took the lead on a goal by Luke Akey assisted by Greg McMurter and Davie Watt. In the third period, Port Hope tied the game again. Game ended in a 2 - 2 tie. On Jan. 6th, Heritage House Toros travelled to Stouffville. There was no score in the first period but both teams had their chances which made it very exciting. The second period saw Toros Toros getting the first goal at the 7:43 mark. Brad Ormis- ton scored, assisted by Paul Lavallee. The one goal held up until the last few seconds ot the game when Stouffville pulled their goalie for the extra extra man. Jason Jackman shot the puck just over the red line to score in the open net. Game ended Toros 2, StoufiVille 0. On Jan. 7th, Toros held their Young Canada Day Tournament. The Heritage House Atom Toros hosted the Oshawa Checker's Variety Variety (AAA). The first period was scoreless and very entertaining entertaining for the fans. The second period saw Toros scoring the first goal, Jason Jackman, unassisted. Toros scored again on a goal by Davie Watt assisted by Ian Taggart and Jason Jack- man. Checkers came back in the third period with a goal, making it 2 -1. Then it was all Toros, scoring five more goals for a 7 - 1 win. Goal scorers for Toros were Ian Taggart assisted by Mike de- Blois and Jason Jackman, Greg McMurter from Robbie Robbie Harness, Davie Watt unassisted unassisted and Jason Jackman with 2 unassisted.
