Orono Figure Skating News by Lynne Lemieux On Sunday, January 15th, Orono Figure Skating Club hosted High Test Day for skaters in the area clubs. Several Orono skaters were successful in their tests. Briar Ransberry passed the "Killian" "Killian" dance in the Senior Silver Silver Dance category. As well; Briar Ransberry and Tanya Clemens passed the Junior Silver Freeskate and Tracy Eames passed the Senior Bronze Freeskate. Well done, girls! On January 27,28, and 29 Uxbridge will host their Freeskate and Dance Competition. Competition. The Orono Skating Club will host a one day seminar on Monday, January 30. Skaters will receive instruction instruction from Professionals in Stroking and Ice Theatre. Meeting Held At St. Paul's St. Paul's United Church, Bowmanville, held their Annual Annual Congregational meeting meeting on Sunday, January 15, 1989, following a delicious pot-luck luncheon. Reverend N. E. Schamerhorn presided over the meeting. A memorial tribute, which included 23 names of members members and adherents who had passed away during 1988, preceded the business. A printed booklet containing a message from the Minister and complete annual reports of all Boards, Committees, Organizations and Groups of the church was available to everyone to study and to take home and keep as a record. Reports were received from the Session, Board of Stewards, Treasurer, Mission Mission & Service Fund, United Church Women, Junior & Senior Choirs. St. Paul's Players, St. Paul's Arts Council, Council, Golden Years, Junior Young Peoples, Thursday Morning Bible Class, Living Nativity Committee, Couples Club, Hi-C, Sunday School and the United Church Ob- New Elders elected to the Session were Jane Evans, Lou Dewell, Nancy Thompson, Thompson, and Cathy Koender- man. Elected to the Board of Stewards were Irwin Hamilton, Hamilton, Pat Davis, Austin McLu- han and Norris Hitchens. John Manuel was elected as Auditor and Rae Abernethy and John Rice were elected to the Board of Trustees. Our Treasurer, Art Evans informed us we had a very good year in 1988. St. Paul's Mission & Service Fund raised almost $28,000 - a tribute to our Christian involvement involvement here and around the world. St. Paul's Congregation passed a motion to no longer purchase styrofoam plates, etc. that are unacceptable to our environment. Reverend Ed thanked everyone for coming; for their faith and support through a difficult year in the life of our church; for a great Annual Report and a wish that 1989 will prove to be an even better year. The organist was Mr. Corey Kuipers. The bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Shantz, and the groom's Mr.and Mrs. Orval Hogg, all from Bowmanville. Given in marriage by her parents the bride was radiant radiant in a formal gown of white satin and chiffon which was form fitted. The bodice was accented with Guipure appliques of daisies and roses inlaid with sequins and pearls. Full leg-o-mutton sleeves, a sweetheart neckline, neckline, and a full church train with rows qf'tirë-gathered lace and appliqués were featured. featured. A matching profile hat held a fingertip veil and she carried an arm bouquet of silk long stem blue tinged roses and carnations, baby's breath, stephanotis, lily of the valley, and ivy, tied with . a wide blue ribbon. The matron of honor was Wendy Shantz, sister-in-law of the bride, who wore a coc- tail length gown of blue organza organza and chantilly lace, a beaded hair comb with blue roses, carnations and pearl streamers, and carried a white fan adorned with blue roses and carnations. Best man was Bob Shantz brother of the bride who wore a grey pin stripe suit, blue tie, and a boutonniere of blue roses and baby's breath to match the groom's attire. Ring bearer was Ryan Robert Robert Shantz, nephew of the bride. Wearing black pin stripe trousers and vest, blue pin stripe shirt, blue tie, and a rosebud boutonniere, he carried carried a white lace pillow. At the reception held at the Lions Centre the bride's mother wore an aqua silk cocktail length gown with a corsage of aqua tinged white roses and lily of the valley. The groom's mother wore a aqua chiffon gown with a corsage of white roses. Prior to the wedding the bride was honored at showers showers given by the Hogg family, family, and by the staff of First Choice hair stylists where the bride is employed, and a miscellaneous shower by the bride's aunt Norma Ferguson.
