Heartbreaker for Darlington Auto The following is a capsul- ized report on two week-end games played on Sunday January 29 when the Darlington Darlington Auto Selects travelled travelled to Hamilton to do battle battle with the Ancaster Blues and the Rosedale Selects. The first game played at 1:00 p.m. against the Ancaster Ancaster Blues was a back and forth battle which ended prematurely when time ran out with over six minutes showing on the clock due to a late start. During the first period and with Clayton Rcndell starting between the pipes, Darlington Auto hit the scoreboard first when Darryl Cook tallied from Arron Stoker. Bowmanville upped the count to 2-0 when Peter Schoep used the count to 2-0 when Peter Schoep used the defenseman as a screen and shot one in between the goal tender's legs at the 11:45 mark of the second period, period, unassisted. Ancaster then replied at the 9:04 mark to tighten things up. Then after substituting Stevie Stevie Sargent for Clayton the Blues increased the pressure pressure to finally push across the tying score. With our' boys still back on their heels the Ancaster team blitzed us for two more markers to close out the second at 4-2 for the opposition. Things appeared pretty bleak when Ancaster notched their fifth tally on a spin around backhander, but the Darlington Auto crew dug down and got right back on even terms. Starting Starting the hit parade was Les McCrory ably assisted by Mike Ferguson. Next up was Arron Stoker from captain David Chambers with a nice high shot just inside the post. Jeff Hughes then knotted knotted the score at five apiece on a shot to the comer from a pile up which closed out the scoring for the Darlington Darlington Auto Selects but unfortunately unfortunately not for Ancaster as they pushed across two more in the closing'minutes to end up 7-5 winners. From here it was a mad dash to our next encounter about an hour later against a very physical Rosedale Se lect team which can be attested attested to by the fact that the penalty box was seldom uninhabited. uninhabited. Rosedale hit first toward the end of the first and then clicked again towards towards the middle of the second second to go two up. The third Rosedale marker marker was an unfortunate break coming from a deflection off a skate at the 2:16 mark of the second. But on the ensuing ensuing face-off Darlington Auto marched over the blueline and unloaded, a long shot which just dribbled in between between the pads and over the goal line, Jeff Hughes doing the'damage. This is how the second period and the final outcome ended 3-1 for Rosedale Rosedale as the third period was scoreless for both teams. Although we absorbed two losses on this road trip the Darlington Auto boys' can be proud that we were in it right to the end and each could have gone either way. Ron scored his first as he stormed in from the right side and blasted a perfect shot that hit both goal posts before it settled behind goal- tender, Gary Revell. Ron's second came when he raced across the goal mouth and picked a comer. Ed Schreycr and Grant Flintoff drew assists assists on these goals. Ron displayed displayed complete versatility as a marksman as he redirected redirected Hugh German's shot from the point. Ron, of course, is a native of the village of Hampton and it was that other Hamp- tonite. Joe Balson, who scored our fourth goal to make our total offense a Hampton show. Bob Sheridan Sheridan sent Joe away with a perfect cross ice pass which Joe picked up on his skate and kicked ahead to his forehand forehand as he broke in alone and caught the far comer with a perfect drive. Art Hester was beaten twice by Syd Kane and Grant Powell of Macintosh with assists going to Jim Erwin Erwin and Jim McBride. Ed Schreyer, Ray Preston, Preston, Warren Townsley , Ron Rushak and Bob Deblois all made a solid contribution to our winning effort. Tyke Upset Strong goaltending by Jeff Simpson and a very balanced balanced offensive attack led Rotary to an upset victory over 1st place Skylight. Two goals by Bobby Graham Graham and singles by Darryl Adams, Todd Bumstead, Jeff Ross and Ryan McGill led the offence with forwards Andrew Warren, Jermany Morrison, Jamie Tabb, Tyler Schroer, and Tyler Kotin complementing the offensive attack. Behind the blue line, Simpson also received a big help from the defensive core of Todd Bumstead, Jay Henderson, Henderson, Andrew Smale and Jeff Ross. The Canadian Statesman. Bowmanville, February 8.1989 Adam & Eve Clippers Narrowly Edge V & G One week after winning the Bowmanville Novice Hockey Tournament Championship, Championship, the Adam and Eve Clippers met Victoria and Grey as action in the novice division resumed. With Adam and Eve playing without without Scott Reid. Scott MacK- ay and Jim Colder, the team knew that a strong team effort effort was required by eveiy one for success. And that is exactly what happened as the Clippers edgea V&G 4-3. In tne opening moments of the game it appeared to be V&G vs Jeremy Bowen, as the Clippers' goalie faced a barrage of snots before Mike McCrory finally gave his team the lead at 1:09. But that goal only seemed to wake up the Clippers when Brad Aylsworth finished off a pass from Jamie Potter to tie the score. In the second period Victoria Victoria and Greg still held the edge in play, but with Jeremy Jeremy refusing to allow any further V&G goals and with the strong support from the defensive pairs of Kristy Thompson and Andy Griffin and Jessica Andrews and Grant Gusulak, Adam and Eve scored the only goal of the period with Richard Aa- sen from Craig Sabine at 3:59. Adam and Eve extended that lead in the third period at 1:39 when Craig Sabine set Richard Aasen for his second goal of the game. Then at 8:54 Craig Sabine scored the eventual game winner, from Steve Bos- graaf. V&G made a strong come back in the final minutes minutes as Dave Clark and Mike McCrory scored, but time ran out and the Clippers Clippers were able to claim the win.
