They are, 1-r, Janet Reader of The Pines Sr. Public, in the 7-8 grade category, Bryan Beatty of Courtice Secondary, 2nd place winner in the 11 to 13 grade group; Jonathan Goad of Bowmanville High School, who came 1st in the 11-13 category and Julie Ilton, Bowmanville Sr. Public in the 7-8 class. Other speakers not shown were Jennifer Shank, from M. J. Hobbs, 1st in 7-8 group; Marnie O'Toole, 2nd in same group, Derek Anderson of St. Francis of Assisi and Jean O'Brien of Msgr Cleary, both in grades 7-8. CANADIAN Golf Course Tykes Capture 6 A' Crown Newcastle Golf Course Tykes travelled to Colborne this past Saturday to play in the Anamet Invitational Tyke Tournament. They won 3 games taking the "A" Championship. The 1st game of the day saw Newcastle taking on Belleville, winning by an 8-3 margin. They nut Belleville in a hole early by taking a 3- 0 1st period lead. Belleville pulled close in the 2nd making making the score 4-2, but that was as close as they would get as Newcastle scored 2 goals to start the 3rd and then cruised the rest of the ■ way. From here on things 1 would be more difficult however however ns they faced a Trenton team who had beaten a Peterborough Peterborough squad by an 11-0 score earlier in the day. Again, Newcastle took an early lead only to have Trenton Trenton quickly tie the score. Newcastle bounced back with 2 more but with 4 seconds seconds remaining in the period. period. Also doing their part were Mathew Hason, Leigh Dengis on defence and taking taking care of the goalfender duties were David Guthrie, Craig McManus and Jimmy Conboy was outstanding in the final. Special mention must also go to Mike Patrick as he turned in a stellar checking performance against Warkworth's gunner who had scored 12 goals in the previous 2 games. He was held to just 1 marker this time. Of course Newcastle have a gunner of their own in the name of Nicholas Stacey who scored 4 goals and assisted assisted on the other goal to lead Newcastle to victory in the final.
