Plagued by a lack of office space, regional council has initiated a study to determine possible resolutions to their quandry. Oshawa councillors long have coveted a new headquarters for that city's downtown. But last Monday the Whitby politicians emphasized their position that the facility belongs in their town. BLACKSTOCK -- One man was killed and two other people were seriously injured when two cars crashed head-on near Blackslock on Highway 7A. Dead is 64-year-old Matthew Reid of Lakcficld. He was driving westbound with his wife, Isabel, when their car struck a car heading cast driven by Raymond Fralick, 37, of Scugog Island. Mrs. Reid is listed in fair condition in the intensive care unit at Oshawa General Hospital. Mr. Fralick was listed in serious condition in Sunnybrook Hospital as of Monday Monday morning. OSHAWA -- An 18-year-old suspect will be tried on a first-degree murder charge as an adult if Durham Regional Police have their way. The man was 17, and thus protected under the Young Offenders Act, when charged with the murder of Oshawa native Terry Spindler, 21. The victim was abducted on Boxing Boxing Day, 1988, and his body was discovered on January January 31 near the Ganaraska Forest. Police plan to request that the Crown attorney's office charge the man as an adult. As a young offender a person convicted convicted of first-degree murder can receive a maximum three-year sentence. As an adult the penalty penalty is life imprisonment without a chance at parole for 10 to 25 years.
