WINS ALL-ONTARIO TRACK MEDALS --Nicole Dc- vonisli, a student at Bowmanvillc High School, has won two gold medals in the recent All-Ontario Track and Field Championship held in Etobicoke last week. Nicole placed first in the junior level 100 metres and 200 metres. She also won a silver medal in the triple jump. Some of the other participants in the OFSSAA meet from BUS included: Michelle Devonish (4th in 200 metre midget and 9th in 100 metres); Patrice Lawrence Lawrence (10th in 400 metres and lltli in 200 metres) and Paul Slonehouse (6th in steeplechase). The girls' relay team placed eighth in the all-Ontario meet. PERFECT SCORE AT SENIOR PUBLIC SCHOOL MEET -- Congratulations to Jeremy Allin who achieved a perfect perfect score of 50 points in the track and field meet held Thursday, June 1st, at Bowmanvillc Senior Public School. Jeremy placed first in five events. PARTICIPACTION CHALLENGE -- Results from the Participation Challenge which took place on Wednesday, Wednesday, May 31st, were not what they might have been. The Town of Newcastle was third, in terms of participation participation levels, among the municipalities of the Durham Region which took part in the fitness event. Our rate of participation was 35 per cent. That's down somewhat somewhat from 1988, but still a respectable showing. There's always next year! Bowmanville 623-6353 SPORTS Newcastle Swimmers Compete in Novice Championship ijEPpjigjr:.7..,.. jilushb GEMINI CLUB REPRESENTED AT SKYDOME -- Nine girls were picked from Gemini Gymnastics to participate participate in the opening ceremonies of the Toronto SkyDome on June 3rd. Bowmanville members of the Gemini Gymnastics at the opening ceremonies were Richelle Hollis and Courtney Wood. They were part of a group performing a rhythmic gymnastic routine alongside 800 other Ontario athletes who presented "A Salute to Fitness". The girls were from the Advanced Recreation Division of the Club. The Newcastle Aquatic Club novices swam May 27 and 28 at the 1989 Central Region Novice Championships Championships in Richmond Hill. Local swimmers came home with saven gold medals, 15 silver medals and nine bronze medallions as well as a high points trophy in the 11-12 boys' age group. Senior Public School Students Win Track Medals Generals Tie First Game of New Season The Bowmanville boys ball hockey league is now into the league games. The Generals play in the junior league. On Monday, May 29th the Generals played against the Knights, this was a hard game for the Generals as they only had eight players. The final score was a 4 to 4 tie. The Generals came out fast, picking up the first 2 goals of the game. Ian Taggart Taggart got the first goal with Shawn Whalen getting the assist. The 2nd goal was scored by Travis Hazelton with Ian and Ryan Branni- gan getting the assists. The Knights scored the next goal of the game. Lioness Girls Win Twice Over Whitby The Lioness Girls Soccer team opened their season with two victories, downing Whitby Bay Sports 2 to 0 and then the next night defeating defeating Whitby Canadian Tire 8-0. The Lioness Girls are competing in the Durham Durham Girls' Soccer League which consists of teams from Whitby, Oshawa, Pickering and Bowmanville. Scoring for Bowmanville were Sarah Couch 5 goals, Tracy Michaud 2 goals, and Kim Bates, Hannah Whatley and Karen Seto 1 goal each.
