Drivers Honored for Rescue at Accident Jake Buma (left) and Harold Barter, recipients of the Ontario Trucking Association's Award of Valor are pictured in the photo above. The pair, drivers with Can-Truck Transportation Limited,, received the awards for providing assistance to a man injured in an automobile accident on Highway 401 last March. Harold Barter and Jake Buma each received the 1989 Award of Valor recently recently for providing assistance to a man injured in an automobile automobile accident. The two drivers received the awards from the Ontario Committee of National Transportation Week on June 7. The award was presented as a result of action taken at the scene of an accident on March 31,1989, at 1:40 a.m. Mr. Barter, who works for Can-Truck Transportation Limited, was travelling westbound on Highway 401 through Mississauga, when a pick-up truck ahead of him swerved and hit an abandoned abandoned van at the side of the highway. The pick-up truck then bounced against the f uardrail and rolled into the rst lane, in front of Mr. Barter. Mr. Barter then stopped and parked his tractor-trailer tractor-trailer in such a way as to protect the pick-up truck from any oncoming traffic. Mr. Buma called for an ambulance and the police and contacted the dispatch office of Can-Truck to advise them of what was occurring. He then began to set up flares and direct traffic. At that point, another man stopped and he and Mr. Barter turned the rolled vehicle vehicle to an upright position. They pulled the victim, who was slumped under the dashboard on the passenger side, from the vehicle which was leaking gasoline and placed him a safe distance away.
