By Karen Thompson The following is an article written by a mother from the Parent Committee of the 3rd Brownies, 1st Guides and 2nd Pathfinder Units. Our Brownies, Guides, and Pathfinders have had a very busy and fun year. Their leaders as in the past, have managed to combine work and play so as to make the year enjoyable for all. The Pathfinders joined us in the fall, bringing with them wisdom and maturity. They have set a good example for our Brownies and Guides. In the fall, the girls enjoyed their annual Father and Daughter cook-out down at the lake. Once again, the Guides and Pathfinders began serving serving at the Lioness dinners once a month. The Brownies entered a float in the Santa Claus Parade as did the Pathfinders. Enrollments were held in November and December and a very special ceremony was held to celebrate celebrate Charlynn Tillcock's graduation from a Cadet to a Warranted Leader. Christmas was celebrated with special Christmas parties. parties. In April, the girls had an opportunity to spend a couple of hours swimming at the Splash pool. On Easter Monday, while the Brownies and Pathfinders enjoyed a day at the park and hiking, the Guides travelled to the Royal Ontario Museum. A great day was had by all! On May 27th, the Brownies and Pathfinders spent the day in Midland and by all reports, had a wonderful time. I did notice though that the parents parents looked just a touch more worn-out than the girls!!! Throughout the year most had the opportunity to attend various fall and winter winter camps. On May 29th, the Brownie Fly-up and Guide All-Round Cord ceremonies were held at Memorial Park Clubhouse. The mermaid Brownies swam over to meet the Guide Company and the Guides were lassoed and sent down the waterfall where they were met by the Pathfinders. It was good to see the chain of progression from the Brownie fly-up to the Guide Advancement. On June 3rd, the annual Brownie/Guide revel/rally was held at Darlington Park. All the Brownie units and the Guide units from Bowmanville met to enjoy a day of fun. JAMES INSURANCE Broker Limited 24 King St. East, Bowmanville, Ont. This is a very prestigious honour in Guiding and we know that you will wear you Cords proudly for all the difficult difficult tasks that you had to complete to receive this honour. honour. One sad note for Bowmanville Bowmanville is that we are losing losing a GOOD leader to Bancroft. Bancroft. Anita Webster has been with the 2nd Brownie Pack. We will miss her but yet we know that Bancroft is getting a terrific leader. One other leader is leaving leaving her unit but has agreed to stay as the Programme Advisor for both the District and the Division Council, Pat Anderson from the 4th Guide Co. She brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise expertise to this position and even though she will be missed as a unit leader, she will be a great asset to the new position she has taken on. Congratulations to both these excellent leaders and may we wish you both every success with the new tasks that you are taking in Guiding. Guiding. O.P.P.
