To the Editor: Seventeen moths ago, my wife and I and three young children moved to Bowmanville Bowmanville for two primary reasons. reasons. First, it seemed like a nice town to live and raise kids in. Second, it was far enough from the city to give us the house we wanted with the money we had. We discovered this jrnst Thursday September 7 just how right we were on our first reason. Our six-year-old son was late getting home from school. The same school he went to last year that takes him five minutes to walk, or two minutes to run if he's in a hurry. At 4:00 p.m. I had to leave for work, telling my wife not to worry that he was probably just playing at the school yard. And unknowingly, unknowingly, leaving her with a pretty hairy situation. After a check at the school yard and the playground playground across the road proved negative, she began to worry, moreso than usual. Some of the neighbourhood kids began cruising on their bicycles looking for him. By 4:30 p.m., after phone calls to the only friends of our son we knew of, the worry worry meter really started to climb and Durham Regional Police were called. They re- DarlingtonYouth Soccer League sjwnded with three cruisers within minutes and were out checking all the streets using loudhailers. Then the neighbourhood got into it. Neighbours took our two younger children in and off my wife's worried hands. People we knew only casually, and some we didn't know at all, volunteered to comb the area of Bowmanville Bowmanville Creek in the area north and east of Baseline and Spry. The effort was tremendous. tremendous. Teachers from Waverley P. S. began phoning the homes of each of our son's classmates. Our son was found just before 6:00 p.m by one of our neighbours. He had cone home with a new boy in the class, and when he left, had become disoriented in an unfamiliar unfamiliar neighbourhood. What so impressed my wife and me, was how quickly quickly the people in this community community became involved and pitched in to help. They, one and all, certainly did Bowmanville Bowmanville proud, and reaffirmed reaffirmed our belief that we came to the right place to raise our children. Our deepest appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the Durham Regional Police, and all the people of Lawrence Lawrence Gres, Park Lane, The Bridle Path and surrounding surrounding area who came to oür aid.
