In addition, the group welcomed a. new leader, Harry Bulmer. The group shown above includes Mr. Bulmer and the following Beavers: Geoffrey Bridie, Aaron Adams, Adams, David Brown, Kevan Browne, Chris Kocur, Sean Matthews, Ryan Oliver, and Scott Thomson. B.H.S. Runners Do Well at Meet Attention Bowmanville! Despite the fact that it was the coldest October 19 on record in the area, the B.H.S. cross country team competed in the L.Ô.S.S.A. meet at Dagmar Ski Club. The team blew everybody away as they performed incredibly incredibly well through the driving sleet and high winds. All deserve our praise and recognition. Here are our fantastic results: results: Midget Boys' race: Brad Palmer finished 31st, Midget Girls' race: Shannon Mack finished 27th, and Laura Somerscales finished 24th and qualified for DYS- SA. Junior Boys' race: Shawn Anderson finished 45th, Brian Elliot 43rd, Matt Aik- Lloyd Scott, M.A., Counselling Professional/Confidential/Caring Emotional, Marriage and Family Distress Marriage Problems Sexual Problems Anger and Depression Bereavement Specializing in: Children I Teenagers and their families. Senior Boys' race: Chris Hillbom had a 14th place finish and Paul Stonehouse streaked across the finish line to finish 2nd and take the silver medal. Both qualified qualified for DYSSA. Junior Girls' race: Kate S staff and Tracy Van- came across the finish line together and grabbed a 23rd place finish, Veronica Harris finished 10th , Tara Cooper finished 7th and Diana Diana Moriarity finished 2nd and won the silver individual individual race medal. As a result of a lot of hard work on the coaches behalf, J. Boucher, D. Rem- pel and U. Tuerk, the Junior Girls' team finished first in overall team points and received received gold medals and a' trophy that is now being displayed displayed in our display case! WAY TO GO, TEAM! What's New at Clarke High The Co-operative Education Education Department at Clarke High School is continuing its efforts to assist students to find co-op placements which will complement their studies studies as well as their interests. The students may earn as many as six co-op credits during their high school careers careers which will go toward their diploma. One credit involves involves completing 110 hours of work at the job plus related related in-school tasks. The early weeks of school have been busy ones for coop coop staff and students alike. Placements being used are as diverse as the students themselves, and currently some of these local training stations include Highway 115 Truck and Auto Repair, The Apple Blossom Shop, The Orono Times, Mangar s Auto Centre and Orono Public Public School, to mention just a few. The goal, of course, is to match the talents and interests interests of the student with the appropriate business so that the needs of both can be successfully met. The co-op department is attempting to keep abreast of industry's requirements and to .inform Clarke students students of these needs so they can, in turn, make intelligent intelligent career choices. With that objective in mind,Clarke will be involved in organizing a day for co-op students entitled "Careers for the 90's" to be held at the Bowmanville Lions Centre November 7, 1989. Peer Counsellor "Profile - Jason Major If you've seen this character character before it's either been in the exciting halls of Clarke High School, in the monstrous monstrous metropolitan of Orono, Orono, or maybe you've seen him wandering about in his part-time job at Armstrong's I.G.A., usually joking around with Heather Hutton. Hutton. Jason is involved in the Peer Counselling Program , at Clarke High School. He is 16 and enjoys water skiing, drawing cartoons and all kinds of sports. He lives with his brother Duane,' and fabulous parerits Joyce and Russ. " 1 Jason says he enjoys Peer Counselling and suggests that others give the program a try. Operating Hours Will Change at Clarke Library Library users should make note of a change in hours of operation at the Clarke Branch in Orono. Effective Effective October 31, that branch of the Newcastle Public Library will be open as follows: Tuesday - 12 noon - 8 p.m. Wednesday - 12 noon - 8 p.m. Thursday - 12 noon - 8 p.m. Friday -12 noon - 5 p.m. Saturday - 9 a.m. -1 p.m. Sunday and Monday - closed. This increases the total number of open hours at the Clarke Branch from 28 to 33 per week. This pattern of operating hours was selected because of its consistent weekday afternoon afternoon service. It should be much easier for Clarke's users users to remember than the choppy service hour format it replaces. A pattern of af- temoon/evening hours similar similar to the new hours at Clarke has been successful at tbe Newcastle Memorial Branch of the Library over the past year.
