Gary Akey, Terry Black and Paul McCullough fired two goals apiece to lead the undefeated Motors to the first game victory. Brian Forscy, Bill Crosey and Brian Hughes accounted for the others. "Mort" Richards came up with a hat-trick performance for the losers, with singles going to Alex Wiseman and John Osborne. Crystal were paced by Bob McManus with a pair of goals and five assists, and Jim Olinski with four tallies and two assists. Ted Fairey, Bob Marjerrison and Burns MacMillan each scored twice with Gary Cooper's single, completing the scoring. Don Masters clicked for three markers and "Jiggs" Cowling bagged a pair for the Sports. Grant Flintoff, Gary McCullough and Terry Masters Masters were the other marksmen. FLASIIBACK-10 YEARS AGO -- Recent winners of the western area soccer championship for the second consecutive year was the team entered by Bowman- ville Senior Public School. Both years they were victorious victorious over the M.J. Ilobbs team in the final play down. DURHAM REGIONAL POLICE DISABLED CHILDREN'S CHILDREN'S GAMES--The 5th Annual Durham Regional Police Disabled Children's Games will be held on Saturday, November 18, at the Pickering Recreation Complex, His Honour, Lieutenant Governor Lincoln Alexander, will be opening the games at 9:00 a.m. The "special guest" this year will be Laura Churchill, who is - herself a disabled athlete. She resides in the Durham Region. There will be 10 teams competing from across southern Ontario including Durham, Metro, Waterloo, Burlington and Peterborough. The Games are hosted by the Durham Regional Police Force. Police officers and their families will be organizing, organizing, funding and participating. BOWMANVILLE EAGLES ACTION -- The Bowmanville Bowmanville Eagles will be in action on home ice twice in the coming week. On Saturday, November 18, the Lakeficld Chiefs will be in town for an 8:00 p.m. start, while on Tuesday, November 21, the Uxbridge Bruins will face off against the Eagles at 8:15 p.m. HALF PINTS BASKETBALL -- The place to be on IV^mday, November 20, at 6:00 p.m., will be the Bow- manvillc High School as the school hosts the Canadian Half Pints. The Half Pints are a team made up of midget basketball players, who tour Canada helping to raise funds for schools and service clubs. They consider consider themselves as a mini version of the Harlem Globetrotters. The Half Pints will face a team of local dignitaries including Harvey Webster (teacher at M.J. Hobbs), Martin Wind (Durham Regional Police), and John Reid (past principal at Waverley Public School and now a superintendent with the Board of Education), Education), to name a few. The funds being raised will help cover costs for the Senior Boys Basketball team, as they travel to Nova Scotia to compete in the Coal Bowl. The club reports that registration is up from last year, with approximately 150 skaters enrolled. ONTARIO FEDERATION OF ANGLERS AND HUNTERS HUNTERS -- Some spectacular catches have been reported for the 1989 "Molson Export" Big Fish Contest. A brown trout weighing 31 pounds, will likely shatter the current contest record by six pounds. The 36.25 inch trout was caught in Lake Ontario near Hamilton. Another lucky angler used a minnow and a spoon as bait in the catching catching of an 11 pound speckled trout on Saunders Lake, east of Sault Ste. Marie. The fish, measuring 29.75 inches, inches, was netted in late September. On Buckhorn Lake, ndrth of Peterborough, a 26-inch largemouth bass was caught and is the leader in the live release category. Closing deadline for entries is November 30. The Courtice area schools held their 20th annual elementary soccer tournament on October 26 and 27. Dennis Pizza Novices Win Tourney On Saturday, November 11th the Bowmanville Dennis Dennis Pizza Novice Toros travelled travelled to Huntsville and competed competed in a 10 team tournament. After handily defeating Powassa, Bracebridge and Arnprior, the Toro boys entered entered the finals to play against Parry Sound. Chris Pot wasted no time in the first period, and unleashed unleashed a hard shot from the circle, which beat the Parry Sound goal later, Chris McKenzie was digging hard in the corner and fed it to Craig Sabine in the slot, who made no mistake mistake and banged it home. The second period began with an excellent display of hockey by both teams which kept the fans on the edge of their seats. With five minutes minutes left in the period, Jeff Shmyr made a nice pass tip thru the middle to Andrew Orono Figure Skating Report by Lynne Lemieux. Skating competitions in the area have now started and the girls from Orono have been working hard preparing preparing themselves. On November November 4th at the Cobourg Skate, Melissa Colville skated skated well and placed third in the Juvenile Ladies level. Next week in Brockville, the Eastern Ontario Sectionals Sectionals will be held. Representing Representing the Orono club will be Tanya Clemens, Briar Rans- berry, and Tracy Eamcs. Mr. Sub Wins 3 Games The Mr. Sub PeeWee team played three games this weekend, winning all three. On Saturday, November 11th. the Mr. Sub team faced off against Lange's Photo. These two teams went into this game as the top two teams in the division division with only one point separating separating them. The Lange team came out fast, scoring the first goal of the game. Rob Watson then tied it up on a pass up from Darren Allin. Lange's notched the next two goals to get a 3 to 1 lead. Rob scored the 2nd goal for the Sub team. Jeff Hughes scored to give Lange's their two goal bulge. The Sub boys now started to. play the game with some heart. • Darren Donahue scored the 3rd Sub goal with little Darren Allin picking up the assist. Late in the third period, Darren Donahue tied the score with Darren Allin and Chad Veinot picking up the assists. Also in the 3rd period period the referee handed out penalties to Mr. Sub who found themselves playing short, with less than four minutes to play. With three minutes to go in the game Lange's put out their big guns but the Sub team balanced balanced with 4 to hold the score. Chad Veinot scored on a pass from Rob Watson by placing the puck behind Lange's goalie. The referee then nailed Rob for a penalty, penalty, forcing the Sub boys to play 2 minutes short. The defence of Les McCrory, Darren Donahue and Justin Vance came up big, not allowing the Lange team to score. The Sub parents parents should be proud of the way their boys played. Later in the day the Sub team travelled to Oshawa to play St. Gregory's of the CYO. In this game the Sub boys skated to a 6 to 1 victory. victory. David scored on a nice passing play from Dairen Allin and Brian Thornton. Rob ended the scoring 31 seconds later on a passing from David and Brian, game found all the Sub boys wanting to score and no one wanting to play defence. On Sunday, November 12th, the Mr. Sub team travelled travelled to Newcastle to play Woodview from the NASC of Oshawa. This was a wide open game with Mr. Sub skating to a 15-10 victory. The scorers for Mr. Sub were Rob Watson, 4 goals 4 assists, David Vernon 3 goals, Chad Veinot 3 goals 1 assist, Jack Laverty 2 goals 2 assists, Darren Donohue 1 goal 1 assist, Darren Allin 2 assists and Les McCrory 1 assist. Brian Thornton one assist, Alex Walcer 2 goals. The score may not have shown it but Jeff Crawford was forced to make many big saves for the Sub boys. The Sub boys now know how to score, let's see some defense. . 8 '. 6 "M . ,i ; 0 ic. 401 Esso Atoms Lose to J and J After winning their first three games of the season the boys from the 401 Esso Atom hockey team knew they would be in for some strong competition in their game against J&J on November November 11th. The J&J crew put the pressure on immediately immediately and struck for the first goal after only a minute of play. After a close call in the Esso end the play shifted. Darryl Cook broke into the clear and picked the top left corner of the J&J net to tie the game at 1-1. The assist went to Wade Worsley. On the next shift, Ryan Branni- gan drove home a rebound when left unattended in front of the J&J net. Paul Drummond assisted on the goal. Later in the period, a nice three-way passing play saw Darryl Cook score his second goal of the game on a setup from Jeff Carter and Wade Worsley. This put 401 Esso ahead 3-1. Early in the second period, period, Phil Gushulak scored on a hard shot from well out to draw J&J to within a goal. J&J put the pressure on and had, several close calls before § ing the game on a goal by rian Ball. Esso defenceman Scott MacKay then made an excellent rush up the right : side and slipped the puck past the goalie for a 4-3 lead. J&J refused to quit and came back with two goals in the third to.win a very close game by a score of 5-4. For the 401 Esso team congratulations congratulations to all players for their fine effort, with special mention to Scott MacKay for an excellent game on defence defence and also to the forward forward line of Worsley, Cook and Carter for some nice passing plays.
