At last Wednesday's Regional Regional Council meeting, members voted to challenge several York developments at the Ontario Municipal Board. (OMB). Durham will be taking a total of six industrial industrial and residential official official plan amendment applications applications in York to the Ontario Municipal Board. Regional Chairman Gary Herrema said it was with "great regret that we have to lift this today." He told the members of council that the Region had met with York and have had trouble acquiring the numbers numbers of some development proposals. York Region currently has no Official Plan to control control development in the area, and Durham is worried worried they are using all of their capacity under the agreement. The chairman said: "We have never gone into wars with any municipality" but added that the York Durham Durham agreement on joint sewage sewage treatment was not being followed. Congratulations to long-time resident Ivy Rahm, now of Victoria, Victoria, B.C. who walked off with first place win in the writing competition competition sponsored by the B.C. Criminal Justice Association. The theme of the competition was "Parole and Community support to prevent Crime." Mrs. Rahm is a member of the New Horizons Creative Writing class and entered the contest at the urging of her friends. She was naturally elated when she was informed that she had won over rather stiff competition and is scheduled for a round trip to Ottawa early next year as her prize. The three runners-up each received $1000.00 cash. The United Chutch choir held its' annual Christmas party at the Luke farm on Saturday evening. Twenty-six people including Rev. and Mrs. Dale Davis enjoyed the pot luck dinner followed by a social time. Needless to say everyone participated in a lively ceeds with its planning the way it wants to proceed, sewage capacity could be pulled out from under them. Fourteen" U.C.W." ladies gathered at 12:30 p.m. on December 12 for their annual Christmas Pot Luck Lunch and meeting at the home of Jean Adams. After the wide variety of temptin dishes had been sampled, the singing of "This is the Day" brought the meeting to order. Grace Hall read the Prelude and Prologue to the Gospel of John, which really explains what Christmas is about, and closed the Worship with a beautiful prayer.
